GameDaily's steps to revitalizing the PSP

Sony's in need of some PR recovery for its multimedia gaming handheld. GameDaily listed a few suggestions, many of which should lead to the PSP's success:

1. Drop the UMD movies already. Yes, I completely agree. But considering the lack of UMDs on the release schedules, I think Sony's unofficially officially given up. What we DO need is Sony's Connect to materialize some time soon. Apple now distributes movies for the iPod; I want Sony to distribute movies for the PSP's beautiful widescreen display. Now. And for cheap.

2. Lower the system price. We've heard tons of rumors of a price drop. I don't think it'll happen: what's more likely is Sony continuing to "update" its Value/Core/Giga packs. Not that the latest one was any good.

3. Fix the D-pad. I completely agree. There's something wrong when pre-order bonuses involve giving away free replacements for the D-Pad.

4. Get more exclusive games. I don't really agree with this point. While the system has been struggling early on, there's a lot to look forward to, as evidenced by Tokyo Game Show.

5. Get more online friendly. Once again, I don't think this is a concern. Is it really difficult to use Sony's online service? I've been able to log on to a game of Syphon Filter far more easily than Mario Kart DS (because I use WPA encryption, which the DS does not support). If Sony does copy something from Nintendo, I hope they copy the Wi-Fi's free service at McDonald's. Being able to walk into an easily accessible fast food restaurant and getting free wi-fi is awesome. The upcoming games that support Infrastructure looks excellent, so there's no qualms there for me.

6. Make PS1 downloads reasonably priced. This is obvious. How much would you be willing to pay? I'm willing to pay $10, the same amount that Nintendo will charge for N64 games on the Wii's Virtual Console.

7. Get a better marketing campaign. OMG YES. This is actually one of Sony's worst facets. SCEA has to stop marketing the system towards idiots.

8. Get the multi-colored units out quicker. This should be obvious, but it simply won't happen. How long has it been since the white PSP was announced? And has it arrived in the US? No. There's new colors coming to Japan and Europe, but for some reason, American executives think we don't want to have any variety in our life. They are wrong.
