Denon uses them for all of their high end equipment. I never thought I'd see that in a portable. It also supports all of my favorite lossless codecs... so not only does it sound good, it's designed around the audiophile.

Also it claims to be able to decode 720x480 h.264 files at 30fps? If true, space for video isn't so much of a problem anymore.

Lack of a hard drive could leave room for a relatively massive battery (considering the size of the case), so the battery life could be killer...

Yup, I want one. Definitely. You can do a rip and video conversion at a video bit rate of approx. 1000kbps and an audio bit rate of 128kbps and fit almost any film into less than 1 GB. With 2GB cards being so inexpensive these days, it's not a problem. I would much rather have everything be solid state so as to avoid the battery drain issues, honestly. I have a Tapwave Zodiac, which doesn't have a hard drive, and I watch movies on it all the time on a 2GB card.

dougom

Comments on

The specs on this thing are pretty sweet.
