MacMice announces Danger Mouse Red
Digging MacMice's laser-based Danger Mouse but not so keen on its unassuming color scheme? Well, the company's aiming to please and to do good deed as well with its latest mouse, taking inspiration from a certain other (RED) organization. While you likely won't be seeing Bono and Oprah sharing a few clicks with one of 'em, MacMice will still be donating a portion of the profit ($3, specifically) from each Danger Mouse Red to a worthy effort, the Peace Village School & Orphanage in Kenya, Africa. Apart from the eye-catching color, the mouse is exactly the same as the regular Danger Mouse, with two buttons to lighten the load on your control key and 1600 DPI to keep your cursor on track. The Danger Mouse is also not the only product getting the "other red" treatment, with a brightly-colored GarageKey MIDI keyboard also available for pre-order. Both should be shipping by the end of the month, with the Danger Mouse Red running $30 and the GarageKey setting you back an even $100.

Seriously... because of the lack of scale in the picture... it looks like a used tampon.
spaceman2004 @ Nov 4th 2006 8:44AM
Plus fact that Danger mouse was white! Just ask Penfold!

I wouldn't recommend the Danger Mouse. I had a ton of problems with mine -- it wouldn't track on some surfaces, and registered a double click instead of a single click almost every time. To be fair, they did offer to replace it, if I shipped it back to them (at my expense), but I didn't want to pay the shipping just to get another potentially defective mouse.

They probably won't actually make a donation. The guy that makes MacMice is a crook. I'm sure someone else can explain the full story.

MacMice is not run by Jack campbell any more - he is still involved but a guy name Mike Aljouny that runs Mac-Pro runs it now - not that he's a great businessman either.

Xbox 360 HD DVD actually cost from $99 or $120 at Amazon.com. But only this first shipment will come with the free movie and remote, I hear the second shipment wont. The package cost $200 but King Kong is free -$40, the media remote is free -$30 and shipping is free -$10 so you actually be paying $120 for the HD DVD!!! Plus, if you apply for the Amazon Visa you'll get $20 off!!! so you actually be paying $99!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack Campbell of MacMice is a convicted felon. What's even more suspicious is that the orphanage that this "Other Red" is supposedly donating to (ukundakids.com), just had their domain registered on October 25! This looks very suspicious to me, considering that the layout of the page looks very similar to Campbell's other site www.dvforge.com. Don't buy this product.
putte @ Nov 4th 2006 10:46AM
Highly suspicious indeed. Just look at the "Contact" page on macmice.com and ukundakids.com. Almost identical. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the same people running and designing both sites ... but using stock photos and not naming the people behind the project hardly inspires confidence.
Blogston Biddle III @ Nov 4th 2006 10:45AM
I agree with Henry Yeh. Engadget should not run this as a serious story. Leaving the words, "Jack Campbell" "felon" "known scammer" and "slimeball" out of the original story is poor reporting on Engadget's part.

Because that's relevant Ed...

Goo ideam but I do have to agree with Henry Yeh. It does look a little shady. Check out www.otherred.com as well, all three sites share the same type of layout. I don't think I'll be nuying this anytime soon (I already have 2 mice I use with my MacBook Pro), plus I'll just wait and see what happens with this.
derek @ Nov 4th 2006 11:55AM
Ugh. Don't buy one of these. I bought one of their other mice about a year ago. It's a horrible, chintzy, cheap piece of crap. It felt like I was using the packaging to a real mouse as a pointing device.

Red nano, red shirts, red mouse; while your at it, spray your iMac Red, but why stop there, paint your walls red, desk red, hair red, pet red, furniture red, floor red. Then create a new TV reality show on MTV called "You Just Got Red" where starving celebrities go into your home, and paint every damn object in your house red, and if you don't like it, tough because the company is full of red tape, and filing a lawsuit would take a red carpet lawyer.
embee @ Nov 4th 2006 3:07PM
Don't buy red or RED. Do you know what the administrative costs for the charities to which A PORTION of the donations are going? If you don't know the administration costs or how much money actually gets to those who are need, DON"T DONATE.
The RED fine-print looks suspiciously like a money-grab dressed up to look like charity. There are other better ways to donate than buying overpri$ed GAP and Apple merch.

i bought "the mouse BT" or whatever its called from this company about a year and a half ago... it definitely sucks and feels like a toy. it was expensive too. i would not recommend buying anything from this company, especially after reading so many other bad reviews of their products!
madwelshacre @ Nov 5th 2006 2:05AM
According to whois, both MacMice.com and UkunduKids.com are registered to "Verio, inc." Shady if you ask me.
