The LCD screen is white
with a black splash scattered through it. It will turn on, but then shut right off. It does not
allow me to look at any previous pictures or take any new ones. My question is...........Can
it be fixed and where would I send it to be repaired? I received this as a gift in March of 2006.

Randi

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

My DSC-T11 just came down with this problem, so I called Sony. They didn't issue a recall per se, but for many models of Sony cameras there's a repair program, and that includes the DSC-U30, smaller brother to the U50. Sony is repairing those cameras if you ask (provided you hit them before October 2007) but other manufacturers, you might be hosed.

Check the Wall Street Journal for October 27, 2005, or read this link:

http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB113036700399480540-1nAyg17CGbnpslrzc4eKe1IA9kc_20051126.html

Turtle

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

how do i go about contacting sony about this recall?... can i go to a sony style store?

turbancharged

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

Recently we have seen lots of Sony problems but in my house we have about 20 Sony products. These products range in age from about 2 weeks (KDL-46V2500) to about 20 years (walkman). Of all of these products only one has ever needed a repair and it is a 10 year old 27 inch TV (thus the new tv). In that same length of time I have replaced: several printers, 2 washing machines, 2 dishwashers, 2 refrigerators, 4 cars, at least 2 couches, 1 roof, 1 deck, 3 pets, and a wife. So forgive me if I do not get upset and boycott Sony over the the problems they are having recently. My personal experience with this electronics company has been better than with any other electronics company.

Jimmy

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

@Jimmy hehe and a wife that was funny

i got over a dozen Sony products my self from a 10 year old trinitron tv (our old trinitron went out after 2x years of abuse) to the handycam i brought as a gift for my uncle a few weeks ago all of them work fine and so far didn't require any sort of repair

one more thing i got to add most (unfortinatly not all) Sony products are still made in Japan that's spells quality for me not some poor quality control plant G-d knows where

V

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

Exactly- I've noticed that one of my older purchases, a Sony laptop, was made in the US. It broke recently after an unknown incident that involved liquid on the bottom of the laptop. On the other hand, I've spilled water on the keyboard of my other Sony Laptop, made in Japan, and it survived me pouring water on the keyboard(and if it doesn't, Sony Japan's warranty actually covers that for an extra fee). Also note that some newer Walkmans are made in China now.

Jamar

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

So..... what exactly is the defect? The thing about innovation is it creates new opportunities. Most things Sony came up with are imitated by other companys and they all try to take credit. Sony just continues to move forward. Also if they have a problem they own up to it and offer to fix the problem. Tell me what other company does that. I dont hear them whining and making excuses. I own to many Sony products to even count anymore and have had very few problems with any of them. So I will stay with them.

Bill

Comments on Sony to recall eight defective Cyber-shot models

Sony is one of the best brands...
