The Wii holiday buyer's guide part 2: the casual player

After our first part in an attempt to help you introduce someone else into the wonderful world of gaming, part 2 is aimed more at the casual type. Someone who already owns the system, maybe a game or two, and finds themself occupying a few hours each week gaming it up. This part in our 3 part guide is aimed at helping them expand that small fascination. Read on for some thoughtful ideas on what to get them this holiday season!

First off, we're going to toss some game ideas at you:

Rayman Raving Rabbids
MSRP: $49.99 US

In this excellent compilation of fun mini-games, we find a great title that anyone can just pick up and play in small bursts without diminishing the game's overall appeal. For the casual gamer, whose radar is only susceptible to the most heavily-advertised and popular AAA titles, this could be a game they either did not know about or shrugged off as being without worth. Well, they were wrong. Show them when you give it as a gift.

Call of Duty 3
MSRP: $49.99 US
It may not have been the best reviewed version of Call of Duty 3, but it's something the casual gamer can dig. With an easily identifiable conflict and intuitive point-and-shoot controls, the game should be a delight to those who find themselves gaming for only a handful of hours per week.

Now that we've covered some games, what about accessories?

SanDisk SD card (1 gig)
MSRP: $44.99 US

Now, you can find SD cards at a variety of different places, whether online or at your local brick-and-mortar outlets. Regardless of where you get one, 1 gig should be more than adequate for the casual gamer's needs.

2000 Wii Points card
MSRP: $19.99 US

Why stuff a gift card for Best Buy or Target into a card when you can give them access to what they really want: more games! With this 2000 point card, they can get their hands on some of the VC games available.

So there you have it. Some ideas for the casual gamer for the holidays, we hope they helped and be sure to come back next week for our final part in this 3 part attempt at making the holidays easier for you.

[Note: We did not include an extra Wiimote and Nunchuk as Wii Play is releasing with the remote after the holidays.]
