JoyTech's no
stranger to the Wii
accessory scene, and the firm is hitting us up once more with its
Wii PowerStation. As the title implies, this docking unit can safely house two
Hattori Hanzo swords potentially
dangerous Wiimotes, and comes stocked with twin rechargeable battery packs to save you those late night trips to the battery department. Additionally, there's a pull-out cradle on each side to place your nunchuck, and while there's nothing to prove (or disprove) the theory, it looks as if the charging station can receive power from any USB port. So if the days on end of
Wii Sportin' it are chewing through the Engergizers at an unacceptable rate, you can pick this up in late January for £19.97 ($39).

Feel the heat...
USB is a great solution for charging, because that means you can charge it -from- the Wii. Right now, I'll occasionally charge my iPod off of my Wii.
Oh man, I'm all over this. Looks great. Now the question is -- although the USB ports on the Wii are disabled, are they still supplying juice? I haven't had an opportunity to plug anything into mine yet. Because it would be really nice to just plug this sucker into the Wii. Cut down on the cable clutter.
Yep, those handy-dandy USB ports are under power even when they aren't active. They even feed power when the console is off! I've used it to charge my ipod, instead of having to crank up the ol' computer for three hours. Very energy efficient, if you ask me ;-)
Awesome, thanks for the confirmation Sam!
Patrick: the USB ports are disabled now? Since when? My USB ethernet thing seems to be still working.. maybe I just got lucky?
Why do you have to include the word "dangerous" everytime you talk about the Wii?
Is MS paying you to say it?
It's ignorance like this that now has a class action lawsuit filed against Nintendo.
Why don't you remind us how much the 360 breaks down in every 360 article?
Seriously....it's a remote. People have no problem hanging onto real tennis rackets and real baseball bats. This stupid viral campaign has to stop.
Did it every occur to you how man people are just blaming the Wii for their own mistakes?
You really need to read this article:

Umm... Lighten up!
A. It's funny because it's true.
B. It's just plain funny
C. It's only a game.
Erm... the picture iun the article doesn't look anything like the picture of the item for sale on the gameseek site (where the read link points to) - so which is it?
You could pick up rechargeable double AA batteries, they're extremely cost effective. I use them on my digital camera.
Engergizers?
Man, if he's getting paid by Microsoft to attack the Wii, you're getting paid by Nintendo to defend it.
It isn't a matter of bribery, just personal opinion, no need to get so worked up.
Does it make the Wiimote feel any differently? And how much do extra battery packs cost?
I was going to get this (it was announced ages ago), but realized that for 40 bucks I could get like a dozen really high-end NiMH rechargables and a snazzy charger. I actually just got 8 batteries for about 30 bucks, shipped, and pocketed the difference. Plus, now I can power other AA-run gadgets with the spares...
it's called a recharger and batteries, people. If you don't have one already, welcome to 2006.
This device is just another useless accessory when there are spare batteries on hand.

Waaaaaaaahhhhhhh!
Someone is saying bad things about my Nintendo over teh internets!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Wow, those usbcell batteries are amazing.. A little expensive, but turn out to be the same in total compared to getting this Power Station. $40 for 4 batteries... Hmm, decisions, decisions.
The Joytech Wii Power Station doesn't connect using USB as indicated in the pictures above, it connects using a passthrough connection into the back of the Wii itself. Here is a guide to installing a new power supply for the Power Station:
