To me, that sounds very similar to a bank robber that returns the loot because the law is breathing down his neck saying "I'm not guilty because I didn't benefit from the stolen money". The options restatement issue is not one affecting just AAPL, it is an ongoing probe affecting hundreds of companies, some of which make gadgets or parts of gadgets you might have in your pocket at this very moment.

Even if it was a significant issue worthy of gadget newsdom, I don't remember seeing much coverage of the iPAQ maker HP's pretexting scandal, which was a far more serious issue, or the more recent controversy over Microsoft's gifiting of laptops to get favorable Vista reviews.

Yet in the past week, there have been 3 sensationalized Apple options beat-ups, written with colored language intended to portray a sense of nefarious corruption.

With Steve Jobs, you have one of the most influential people in the personal computing business, responsible for the birth of a billion dollar company, the resurgence of that company, some beautiful products (love em or hate em, the iPod, iMac, and OSX are wonderful products; you have to at least respect their influence).

HP with out Linda Dunn (or whomever it was) is still good ol' HP.

Apple without Steve Jobs is not Apple. a couple years ago, apple's on the up and some internal board allots some stock options to the 'Special Kind of Asshole' When Shteve finds out about it he returns to the company that potential money. Steveo didn't become the ceo by being a well read accountant, so he didn't realise that it might have been a big problem to actually accept the dough, rather a bit of serendipity for him, but the company has to answer for cooking behind the boss's back to the gov. Remember this is the same guy who's company bought him a jet at the same time as taking a 1cent annual salary. not you're regular company for sure.
