It is now only 8 months old. The earphones no longer work, and it skips all the time. I have followed all of the instructions I have found on RCA's website, including re-installing the firmware several times, and the problem continues. I am not impressed with this device, but I guess you get what you pay for. I'll be buying an IPod this week.

Laura

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

Laura, I am with you. These things are so crappy, I want to smash it. I have a RCA Pearl which was given to me by my brother, when my "ipod" counterfeit crashed (thank you big brother). I must say, I miss that thing as counterfeit as it was. So I have decided to buy an ipod for at least $47 on ebay, used of course. I found one for $45, lucky me and bully for RCA.

Sabrina

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

They are joking right?

ben

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

Unfortuantely Ben, I fear they aren't.

They're almost depressing, except for the decent battery lives they claim.

Chris

Chris Merchant

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

RCA still exists?

Jon Gilkison

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

Oh god, those look so terrible.

(P.S. On a side note I bought my kids RCA Lyra's because they were affordable where as Apple is not for most parents. These old 512mb models run on a single AAA battery for nearly 20 hours and are virtually indestructible. All these players still work great after more than a year of preteen and teen sporting abuse.

iGotNoTime

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

And that is why you hire decent designers.

tho

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

Just a side note: The RCA Jet Stream uses the Kleer wireless protocol (www.kleer.com) to deliver the battery life and audio quality that is mentioned.

And while the design may not be perfect, my kids can't wait to get their hands on wireless - and as a parent, I like the price.

SearchingWorks

Comments on RCA's Gem Line of DAPs - RCA Jet Stream, Jet, Opal, and Pearl

RCA actually makes really sturdy mp3 players. My first mp3 player was one(forget the model, but it was the one that got replaced by the Lyra). That thing could take a beating. I had over 100 songs on it and when i turned it on today it was only 16 songs on it, and most of those songs were skipping like a record player. I don't know what happened to it all of a sudden. Last night I added a few new songs and even listened to them before I went to bed but today it was ruined. And now my computer won't even read it. I was going to delete the songs left on there and start over but my computer can't locate the device.
