Your argument is random and ignorant. You sound like a Microsoft paid Apple basher. You have no appreciation at real innovation and good design. And you also seem to have weaved history into your own anti Apple timeline. I think you should calm down and get your facts straight before dropping ridiculous comments such as that. If you did then you would realize how the first Macintosh completely changed home computing forever. How the Newton wasn't released under Steve Jobs (as he got wrongly fired during the 1980's). Or that the new OSX Leopard will be years ahead of Vitsa (which Microsoft copied off previous versions of OSX anyway). Oh and the closed iPhone/iPod environment your talking so negatively about, well I think you have forgotten how successful the iPod has been with a closed environment. It's meant anyone can pick an iPod up and use it. I even seem to think the Microsoft has also gone for the same closed system with it's Xbox 360 and Zune. Most normal people are totally amazed by the iPhone and what it can do. Also, Joe, you're just as bad as the Leo guy. Ever since the first Mac, Apple products have been more about what you see than what you can do. No, they're not better. No, the iPod isn't the best PMP out there. No, Leopard will not be years ahead of Vista. And the reason so many people are impressed by the iPhone is exactly why the iPod was successful. It goes something like this:

"Wow, that sure is pretty-looking.... look at all those shiny pictures on it... Hey, I can read emails on this thing too? I had no idea any device in the entire world could do that! I'm gonna buy one!"

You see, millions of people bought the iPod because millions of people are ignorant. iPod became synonymous with mp3 player because there were so many people that didn't know anything else. The thing just LOOKED good and that was enough. I'm no fan of Apple but Steve Jobs is not a stupid guy; he knows that more than half the battle is making something that catches your eye, and just expensive enough to be something of a status symbol.
