I mean, rumor has it that they tried to sue some vegetable distributor for using the word Pod in the title of their peas. People hyped up the name iPhone anyway, would you want to call it something else your own cult followers have already given a name to their newest prophet of the Book of Jobs? The sheeple have spoken baby!

Now as far as iPhone being too obvious, of course it is. It is a phone that is designed to take all mental capacity and dexterity away from the user. You want to use the phone, there is a button for phone. Check your email? There is a button for that too. Surf the web? Push internet. Apparently menus are too cumbersome for the uber-busy high school hipster these days. This one button system only plays up the concept of "I must have it now with no waiting" thought process of those who also say "Apple pwnz! You suxx0rS!" before actually looking at what the thing does. Don't forget it costs an arm and a leg even with a contract, will die prematurely from running too many functions from a singular irremovable battery that will only last 20 hours max regardless of what it does. Oh, it's also not even available until summer. LG's "Prada" phone does all this, with a removable battery, will be available sooner, without a contract, for less, and is smaller, and don't forget Nokia's N-series phones do the same thing, with dedicated tactile buttons no less. Seriously, even my Samsung a707 plays music, has voice dialing and has web access, and its a flip phone that can fit pretty much anywhere.

Sometimes I wish these insane Apple-ites would just go on a drink the damned kool-aid and get it over with. The LG Prada phone? I'm not sure I'm Metro enough to carry anything Prada branded. Sure there are lots of phones that play music, check email etc. but do they do it well? I don't really want a phone that plays music if I have to push 57 "tactile buttons" to get it to do it. I don't care about checking my email if it's a huge pain in the butt to get it to download. But hey if that makes you happy good for you. I'm so sick of people coming in and trying to crap in Apple's punch bowl just because Apple fans REALLY like Apple products. You talk about "sheeple"? Go finish your install of Vista ultimate, and then come talk to me about "sheeple". God forbid someone would enjoy a product that works right. With that said I'm sure the iPhone will be exactly the same as every other 1st generation Apple product, and there will be bugs, and issues to work out. I mean, rumor has it that they tried to sue some vegetable distributor for using the word Pod in the title of their peas."
>>Um, I'll just guess that 83 was the year you were born, although it could be IQ. Since you don't like Apple, it's perfectly reasonable for you to take any rumor you ever hear against them and treat it as fact. Yes, apple is going around suing pea manufacturers, and apple orchards, and kraft, and so on. Sure. Maybe you saw that on the Internet, so it must be true. And I suppose it is much more important to come up with a new, innovative name (like 'vista'?) instead of a new, innovative product. If more companies worried more about clever, cool names and less about meeting needs of their customers, the world would rock so much more.

--"Now as far as iPhone being too obvious, of course it is. Seriously, even my Samsung a707 plays music, has voice dialing and has web access, and its a flip phone that can fit pretty much anywhere."
>>I know this concept is lost on people, so I'll type slowly so you can understand it. Not everyone likes gadgets, computers, or technology. And those that do don't like the same things. Not everyone has all of their fingers, arms, legs, eyes, ears, and other things working as marvelously as you do. And what with the variety of people on the planet, somehow -just somehow- this product can exist on this planet and suit the needs of the people who buy it, even if you don't have one, don't want one, and don't like it. Amazing, I know. But obviously you already have one, since you know all about its functions, its battery performance (and you even know that, despite reports to the contrary, it only has one battery) and everything else. I don't even have to think twice about dropping that much money on anything, yet I wonder how can it be so expensive if all these high school kids are going to get them? But you raise another excellent point: no one should ever bother putting out a product if another product does the same or a similar thing. There are already phones out there that do phone calls, so they should take that out. Music's been done, so get that out too. And hey, that Prada phone, the Nokia phone - they need to get all that out too, it's been done. Ditto your Samsung. Gosh darn it, one day we'll get to that utopia where people stop trying to make improvements to things that already exist!
--"Sometimes I wish these insane Apple-ites would just go on a drink the damned kool-aid and get it over with. My fault, I guess in this case it would be "Apple Juice"."
>>And sometimes I wish people who loved to make such grand generalizations about people would go on about their lives and stop trolling every Apple-related article so they can feel better about themselves by spewing a bunch of ill-formed, baseless crap without concern for things like facts, or respecting the differences of others. Lots of Apple people bug me, lots of other platform people bug me, but I am so much above being a low-life that makes a comment about wanting any type of person (race, gender, OS, whatever) to poison themselves.

Lisa H

Comments on Apple and Cisco agree to delay lawsuit, maybe hug it out

Business as usual... lawsuit = a mean of communication between companies.

I believe the outcome will be that Apple only trades in interoperability like what John Chamber (Cisco CEO) said. I have no contempt for Bill Gates, and he's never crossed my mind while tripping.

The apple hater comparison to the KE850 is a bit thin. It's actually priced pretty similar, ~$800 w/o contract. Battery is removable for all those people who carry an extra battery around with them (do you people actually exist, or is the uproar just more bitching? Carrying batteries in your pocket is not a smart thing.) Memory is also removable, so yay to people with 3+ sd cards laying around. Still no 3G and would appear to lack WiFi as well. You're grasping at straws, just stop. I'm not saying that the iphone is hands down better, but I wouldn't say the 850 is either. If I'm saying anything, it's that we should probably wait til they're both available and then maybe put some work into it, instead of just blindly talking out your ass.

Also, congratulations to the editors of engadget on having correctly picked the next sitcom of a generation. It will be The Office and not that crazy, snarky Scrubs.
