You simply plug in a set of headphones or external speakers, and the wiring works as the external FM antenna. Good reception in my apartment. Pretty nice feature for getting music and news (well, NPR, everything else is shit in around here) without internet or a pre-packed library.

Ryan

Comments on Nokia's N800 secretly packing an FM radio chip?

Can anybody please tell me what is the maximum video resolution I can playback for a divx file?
Will this thing play 640*480 Divx video @ 24 fps?

Please let me know

Olivier

Comments on Nokia's N800 secretly packing an FM radio chip?

400*240 gives me good, smooth playback at around 1100Kb/sec total (audio and video) at 24fps with MPEG-4 compression with the built-in media player. I wouldn't recommend any other codec at the moment because MPEG-4 gives the best playback. MPlayer doesn't work right for me right now (other people have had better luck, but the N800 version still needs work), but full-resolution (800x480) at 24-30fps may be possible in the future one the hardware video processor is opened up. MPlayer will probably be able to do 640x480-ish at 20-24fps soon.

Ryan

Comments on Nokia's N800 secretly packing an FM radio chip?

its not so secretly packing an onboard 3d engine as well, but its unused.

rektide

Comments on Nokia's N800 secretly packing an FM radio chip?

Doesn't anyone listen to AM radio anymore?
