The xxD series don't seem to have changed much since the 20D (Which I own and I'm very happy with until I can afford a 5D, I WANT a full-frame sensor!) - afterall, the 20D was voted camera of the year a couple of years running.. for good reason.

As for the hopes of full-frame, I don't think Canon has any intentions of selling more affordable full-frame cameras. They have a corner on the market, they're staying strong in the 1.6X market with their EF-S lenses, and I'd wager most people who want full-frame want it in a capable camera body with some features - all of which cost money. Canon and Nikon have about 80% of the DSLR market share. They have owned that market forever; Sony isn't about to take that away, not with crappy sensors and lack of convincing offerings.
