The points have been made a million times, but I'm starting to see it logically: the Euro gamers are getting raped. We're getting a console that can do less than the US models, later than the US models, with a chassis that is presumabley less sturdy than the US models. All for more money than the US models.

I'm going to reserve judgement until the console launches and specifics are available, but I'm edging mighty strongly to the 360 side. If only Microsoft would hurry up and drop the price or release the 65nm consoles. I can assure you that you have it quite wrong. The EC isn't stupid, they do things often to promote large businesses investing in the EU. Even though it doesn't always look like it.

Take the Windows "N" editions. The EC wasn't stupid, it knew Microsoft had the right to include a media player. But by offering a version without it, they took the complaint against Microsoft and transferred it to the choice of the OEMs. There couldn't be a complaint that the OEMs weren't choosing the N editions, so it basically voided the case, whilst giving prosecutors the appearance of success. The prosecution was happy, because it "won", and Microsoft was happy, because the world didn't change. It was the best decision Microsoft could hope for, yet it was seen by many as the EC being idiotic.

Point of the story: Don't take these antitrust things at face value. Hilarious! Maybe you should research how difficult software emulation is before spouting off number like 97%. With the number of PS2 games out there it would be quite a feat to accomplish backwards compatibility that high. To be completely honest I haven't seen any comments on this anywhere other than notoriously anti-Sony or anti-intelligence sites, and even on these sites it's plainly obvious that there's not a single soul that actually knows what's really happening - they've caught a scrap of information from somewhere and are trying to extrapolate as much false, reader attracting information as possible.

Does anyone know what the truth behind the whole matter really is? Other than Sony, no. All that we do know is that Sony has been working on full software backwards compatibility for a while now but were unable to complete it in time for the launch of the consoles and that such software emulation would allow the removal of costly hardware and might eventually allow for upscaling of each game (as PSXe does for example).

*gasp* Sony doing something that makes pure business sense and may be beneficial to the customer at the same time? Surely not?

Then you have to be the one of the 500,000 that have to sign up to get the blu-ray version of Casino Royale whilst the U.S get there blu-ray packaged in the console then this outrage out having less backwards compatibility for ps2 / ps1 games than the U.S and japan.

Sony just keep screwing us UK / E.U citizens over and over and over and over and over again we need to teach Sony a lesson about equal rights.

Of course, including the extra hardware drives up costs. The magazine adds that Sony plans on removing the PS2 chipset from future revisions of the PS3 hardware once it has finished development of a proper software-based PS2 emulator. Such a removal would help bring down costs for the system
