I just spent $4,000+ on a Quad Core 2.66 Ghz 2 GB RAM 8800GTX 1150 GB desktop gaming rig, and that one almost meets my specs for less than half the price. And I thought my gaming rig was a good deal.

By the way I got it from Cyberpower. Dell's support is absolutely horrible, but compared to Cyberpower, they give the customer white glove treatment. You might as well just build the PC yourself and rely on the individual warranties of the different components, as that is probably going to be more effective that relying on an CyberPower warranty. And it will be even cheaper.

Joey Geraci

Comments on PC Koubou offers up a gaming rig on the cheap

i built a machine with a athlon fx-62, 2 gigs of ram, and a 8800GTX... for about 2 grand... i mean, sure i salvaged some 80gig SATA drives from my old comp, and my optical drives... but wow... shouldn't cost anywhere near that much... my 24'' monitor was 700... that was a chunk there.

David

Comments on PC Koubou offers up a gaming rig on the cheap

Yes, because CyberPower PC is such a great company. Cyberpower has been good to me, the first system I got had water cooling, but it was way too loud for me so I returned it and got one without water cooling with no problem. Check out their ratings on reselleratings.com, they're way higher than Dell or Alienware.

Plus how would you know, have any of you ever gotten anything from Cyberpower? Besides, you can't actually tell me that Cyberpower offers a better customer experience than Alienware or Dell. ResellerRatings is one metric, but you can also check out epinions, or there is the simple face that there are very few in-depth reviews of their products, most likely because their support is horrible. And have you actually read some of the reviews on that ResellerRatings page? Most of them sound suspiciously similar, and I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority were written by Cyberpower employees.

For the discerning customer, there are vastly more appealing choices, like Maingear and Velocity Micro, that aren't that much more but have a truly proven track record of stellar support and build quality, and have gone through the rigorous review process of HardOCP.

Again, if you are a geek, and you are willing to take on the onerous task of supporting your PC yourself, why not save the money by building yourself?

Joey Geraci

Comments on PC Koubou offers up a gaming rig on the cheap

I'm a college student. I don't have the time or resources to build my own PC. I've built several in the past, and taken them apart, I know how to, it's nothing big at all, but I simply don't have the room here to build a PC. As for all of the other brands you mentioned, all of their prices are FAR more (meaning over 1,000 more for the same specs as mine). I just bought the PC for the innards, not the name. It honestly doesn't make one shit of a difference who makes the PC, the components matter more, and since I hand picked the components and chose the top of the line everything (including case, power supply, mobo, etc), I don't really care what Cyberpower's support is like, I can deal with/fix my computer myself.

Kev50027

Comments on PC Koubou offers up a gaming rig on the cheap

If you're reading this website you shouldn't be buying prebuilt PCs.

pyro

Comments on PC Koubou offers up a gaming rig on the cheap

well, if your buing pc's 'on the cheap' or whatever, then you shouldnt be blowing 20 grand, which you wouldnt have anyway, on a 'vacation' to japan  I really hate the damn commentary the authors write.
