More bad news for DRM: PowerDVD AACS key found, AnyDVD supports Blu-ray
Bad news MPAA, good news fair use folk: this weekend not only marks the date of extraction for PowerDVD's AACS key (which, as you may recall, is one of the two HD disc-playing apps in Windows right now along with the already cracked WinDVD), but also signals the release of AnyDVD 6.1.2.9, which officially adds Blu-ray support. Go forth and enjoy easily ripping those heavily armored Hollywood titles, dear readers, and let no motivated power-user take the weekend off from sticking it to the man by consuming their media on the devices and whichever manner they wish.[Thanks, Ren and everyone else who sent this in]

I love AnyDVD...it's the perfect app for ripping movies to your hard drive
Scooter @ Mar 4th 2007 8:16PM
Drive-in is good option for the Mac. It will rip any DVD to your hard drive and give a nice way to view all of your movies. I don't think HD or BR is in cards yet, but it's only a matter of time...

Who has a Blu-Ray disc player in their PC?
you people are nuts... I can't even afford a HD-DVD player to add...
Virtua Fanboy @ Mar 4th 2007 10:05PM
You might try the Xbox 360 drive for $199. It also works on a pc. Just a suggestion.
Kevlar @ Mar 4th 2007 10:11PM
You might want to try getting one of those XBox 360 HDDVD Drives, apparently they make decent players!
akijikan @ Mar 4th 2007 10:12PM
why aren't the trackers littered with HD movies yet?
Blake @ Mar 4th 2007 10:17PM
Clogged tubes? The internet is not a big truck, ya know.

I have seen a few, but they clock in around 12-13gb, so I doubt there are many takers. Also, as someone else noted, I doubt that many people have HDDVD or Blu-Ray drives in their computers. Plus the XB360 drive which is $199 and the BD-ROM that comes in some Vaios cannot burn discs, to do that it's more like $800-1000, so why download a full rip if you can't burn it to anything?
MiaMyselfAndI @ Mar 4th 2007 9:54PM
Yeah, what ever happend to "fair use"? Ugh.
wondering @ Mar 5th 2007 1:23AM
So can you plug that Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive right into the USB port of any computer and it will work?
Virtua Fanboy @ Mar 9th 2007 8:54AM
Yep. As long as it's XP.
akijikan @ Mar 4th 2007 10:42PM
damn I was kinda hopin'
akijikan @ Mar 5th 2007 12:37AM
Who needs a full rip? Give me an h.264 video packed with AC3 in a .mkv and I'm good to go.
Edward @ Mar 5th 2007 12:05AM
sorry but i have to..

Yes. Even with Macs.

Do you folks grasp the extent of this hack? This will produce all aacs keys and ids. Arnezami, who earlier discovered the processing key http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/13/hackers-discover-hd-dvd-and-blu-ray-processing-key-all-hd-t/ is under the impression that:
"We don't have to sniff/snoop Volume IDs anymore.
We can create a program that can decrypt (or play if you will) a disc without any need for WinDVD or PowerDVD. So no sniffing/extracting of keys anymore. And more over: it can work on all platforms...
In other words: we can make our own independent, user friendly player (or decrypter)." - From Doom9 Forums.
akijikan @ Mar 5th 2007 2:23AM
why make our own when we can download a cracked version of anydvd and use whatever we were already using to play/rip/whatever it.
James @ Mar 5th 2007 12:39PM
I don't mean to sound trite, but just imagine how much better the world would be if the "content protection industry" had realized that this would happen and donated the thousands upon thousands of man-hours and millions/billions of dollars they spent developing AACS to, say, OLPC. Wow, people waste money on the stupidest things...
j3oomerang @ Mar 5th 2007 1:03PM
theyve been coming up with cracks, but im still unable to find any 1080p rips on torrents. I WILL dl 25 gigs for a movie in 1080p. is there a secret way to search for them?
Kiteless @ Mar 5th 2007 1:12PM
This is the exact reason I will not use a software player for Windows. With regular DVD's it was not a problem, but with this, if the key is figured out, the software will stop working. Just going to go with a hardware based player as soon as they come down in price a little more. I think the sweet spot is less than $200 for the player. Oooorr just get an XBOX360+HDVDD for $600. But with that, no HDMI. :p
