"keep the faith"???? TheInquirer have never had any faith from the start.<br><br>They are running on a Fear Uncertainty & Doubt report that is based on old firmware. I don't think it's unreasonable that a prerelease PS3 will have issues with backwards comaptibility, and I don't think it's too farfetched that a software update will add the promised 1000 titles (or close to it.) But that wasnt the thread of your article or any of the follow ups from the rest of the gaming press.<br><br>Erador is the latest software release, I wonder if the devs knew it wouldnt have the chip to rely on and therefore intentionally supported the software emulator?<br>That raises the question as to how long people in the trade have known the chip was being removed. Perhaps that should've been your angle?<br><br>I'm all for sony bashing, they've deserved just about everything thrown at them lately, but not this. The Inq artcile was just knee jerk sony bashing with no logic behind it. While we have become accustomed to playing our old games on new systems since everything is on a CD now, I remember the days when NES did not fit into SNES so to remedy it you just swapped them out. Period. This would have reduced costs and not caused such a shit storm after they promise and then screw up the feature.<br><br>2) They should have charged for online gaming, people aren't annoyed by this. I spend 40 bucks a year for LIVE and you know what, its 40 bucks well spent. Uh... Actually you can, sort of, since all non-exclusive Wii games are just PS2 ports!<br><br>Seriously, what is it that makes you think that PS3's (maybe) bad backward compatibility suddenly gives people more reasons to buy a Wii?<br><br>Can you play the forthcoming GTA on Wii? Or the next Metal Gear Solid? Or what about the new Ratchet & Clank? Or whatever the people behind ICO and Colossus will come up with next? <br><br>New Devil May Cry? New Gran Turismo? Or what about online multiplayer gaming? Or what about watching hi def movies?<br><br>Or what about real, demanding gaming in general, instead of endless stream of stupid minigame collections for folks with ADHD?<br><br>What if I just don't give a damn about Mario games? Or Zelda? Or Metroid?<br><br>See - Wii just doesn't cut it for all of us.<br><br>Also, bad backward compatibility is hardly a deal breaker for most people, although of course it would be nice to get rid of an extra box from your livingroom. But not essential. I've played PS1 games on my PS2 for maybe 15 minutes.<br><br>However, the horrible European price is THE deal breaker if anything. If it were 30% cheaper I'd see absolutely no reason NOT to get one at launch. It's not like you can't find any PS2s on sale, eBay or retail.  It's not like if you already own 100 PS2 games, you don't already have a PS2.  What's the big deal about it?<br><br>There are PS3 owners out there who just don't care about PS2 compatibility.  I bought the PS3 for bleeding edge, not for backward compatibility.  Sure the feature is there, if it works, great.  If not, it's not the end of the world.
