As for the Karma, I always thought that it looked great on paper, but the feeling faded fast whenever I picked one up and start playing with it. The interface was ok, but the joystick IMO didn't work as well as the clickwheel, hard drive capacity topped out at 20GB and was notorious for failing in the first couple of months, it didn't play video or have anything near the visual style or cache of the iPod.

Bad feelings about DRM and closed systems or no, you have to admit that iTunes works pretty well with the iPod and that the store has a lot more content than anyone else. I'm not gonna front on the fact that my iPod is 80% loaded with songs I didn't pay for, but the luxury of watching the Office on the subway ride to work is proving to be a lot more convenient than I thought at first and the convenience of purchasing it on iTunes far outweighs the $2.00 dent to my wallet.

About the only obvious advantage I see with the Karma is battery life and being able to save on the go playlists and considering all of the above advantages plus the fact there is a huge cottage industry of third party peripherals made only for the ipod it would take a lot more than that for me to switch.

Plus, unlike the Rio, the iPod is still being manufactured, which I tend to see as an advantage. You'd better be careful with your fondness for obsolete technology or your gonna turn into one of those old timers who won't let go of their Amigas because it was plainly superior to all the other 1985 OS's and didn't deserve it's fate. I do NOT recommend these, they are not worth the money.

Also, we have several shuffles, they run well over 12 hrs, while this one goes out in 2-3 hours. The shuffles are excellent quality and hold up through 3 kids using them daily. One got ran through the wash and works fine!]]>Apr 24th 2007 1:08PM
