A company could claim a patent for just about anything. For a startup company, being at a trade show is probably the make or break moment, so a competitor can just claim you are infringing on a patent and blammo.. one less competitor. I can't wait for the 8GB version; finally a player that can actually play video on a decent screen for (presumably) a decent amount of time, thanks to the low power consumption flash memory. I 8GB I can fit an entire TV season converted down to DivX/XviD, and if it supports h.264 you can fit even more.

Also, Meizu has a history of supporting the free/open codecs, like .ogg and .flac.
