The PSone and PlayStation 2 SCPH-70000 series were intended to be low-end revivions for people who weren't hardcore gamers. The specifications for them were virtually identical to those of their respective predecessors. The Xbox 360 Elite on the other hand is ripping off people who bought the Xbox 360 Premium configuration because most of them thought they were getting the high-end model when they bought it, but now, if they want the best Xbox 360, they'll need the Elite. On the other hand, SCEI has never done this kind of stuff. In fact, the original PlayStation 2 is arguably better than the SCPH-70000 series because you can have an internal HDD and it uses a motorized disc drive, as opposed to the top-loading disc tray of the SCPH-70000 series.

The only ball licker here is you.
