Now that it's 1500, no one is going to buy the thing. Why do we need EVERY key to have an OLED? You know what most keys are for? Text input. Why do I need to see the letters ABCD or E as an OLED? Backlit keyboards have been around for awhile and they are fairly cheap, so it's not so that I can type in the dark. If you want some advice (art lebdev) make a keyboard, a simple qwerty keyboard and stick 10 OLED keys (Map-able hot keys) where the number pad is supposed to be. 10 keys is more than enough for most people, infact, I don't even have 10 apps I'd like to hotkey as it is.

It's official, and someone correct me if I'm wrong (but I'm not), the Optimus Keyboard is the new Phantom Console. Now that the Phantom Console is an old joke for ridiculous vaporware that is never going to see the light of day, I'm replacing it with the Optimus. Sorry, but the price is ridiculous. I cant imagine anyone buying this. They should really scrap the idea because they are going to lose a fortune producing this thing. They'll never make the money back that they've spent on the price of production and parts. It sounds to me like they didn't take the time to work out a more cost affordable way of making this thing and where a bit overzealous to do it.

Josh

Comments on Optimus keyboard hits OLED snag, production still on track?

They've only planned on making 800 of them, currently. Even flat/square laptop keyboard have indentations in the keys for your fingers. Has anyone EVER actually typed on a 100% flat key? I have it's HORRIBLE. Just start typing on the flat surface of your desk, because it's pretty much like this. They should have put clear/curved plastic caps over the screens.

Now the keyboard can't actually be used, it's just a screen made out of little screens. Horrible.

Apple has a patent from 10 years ago for the exact same idea, in their patent they describe how flat keys are useless and that they must be curved to function.

Court K.

Comments on Optimus keyboard hits OLED snag, production still on track?

I prefer laptop keyboards over normal ones because they usually don't have indentations. I find they feel better on my fingers and I can type more accurately because I don't mistakenly push down buttons because of the indentations.

The last time I used a Mac was two years ago (was it the G5 back then? The one with the screen attached, by a thin articulated neck, to a half-spherical base). It had a stock Macintosh keyboard with convexed keys. It was the worst keyboard I had ever used. It's art. With only about 800 of them planned for production its price is justified simply for the exclusivity.
You can find Japanese Gunpla models for about USD$500 and they don't have nearly as much technology, work and design put into them as this keyboard does. It's not like those models have any functionality either, but they still can sell for that price.

This isn't a keyboard for everyone, obviously. For everyone that is up in arms about this: stop whining like a child whose mother has said: 'no', to buying him/her ice cream. Someone with enough money will buy one and stick it in an art gallery or use it for their high-paying office job.

Aston
