For about the price of a Shuffle he got the Express and a 2GBMicroSD card for a total of 3GB storage. It's bigger than I expected, but still very small and still usable. I'm very impressed. I still like my e270, but if I was shopping for a new player now, I'd probably give up the extra storage in favor of the smaller size & simplicity of the Express. Hell, for $56 at Amazon, it's almost an impulse buy for me at this point. Very cool little device.

Patrick

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

I agree Michael, Does EVERY MP3 player made have to be compared to an Apple product?

Cardbored

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

Cardbored @ Apr 26th 2007 10:52PM

I agree Michael, Does EVERY MP3 player made have to be compared to an Apple product?

Yes! We do have to compare EVERY MP3 player with the iPod because Apple has defined and dominated the market, and if we can compare everything to them, then we can either crush them for their over-priced products, or force them add things like an fm radio, expandable memory, and lower prices.

I sell MP3s at an electronic store and the only reason you should get an iPod is for the size and accessories.

However, Sandisk (Sansa) is only 2nd in the MP3 market, right behind Apple, and they have recognized this and are creating and pushing more accessories.

speakerofthoughts

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

I may be wrong, but I thought the company was called SanDisk....not Sansa...

But yea, I have one of the old 1gb models, and the audio quality is excellent.

Mike

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

ffg

mexdodge

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

I got this one about a month ago and I love it. I'd say that's excellent. Besides, we all know that everytime you plug it into your computer, you're recharging the battery, and this would be more often if you used this device as your thumb drive in addition to a music player.

I wouldn't worry about crappy earbuds. You can buy a decent pair of Sony's for $10.

And anyone can buy a retractable USB cable that comes with all the different USB adaptor attachments, and then buy a USB to AC adaptor plug - all for about $20, so that's not that much. So why did they have to make the fatal mistake of not supporting AAC (the "Supported formats" section says it does, but the main article doesn't mention it, and neither do other articles). 99% of my 8 gig music collection is in vanilla 192 aac, and that is not about to change. Why couldn't they just support aac? Silly me, I thought by almost completely avoiding iTMS and just going with a standard, non-DRMed format, that I would be free to switch to a non-iPod if/when a good competitor comes out. Little did I know that aac would still be this unsupported by non-iPods after this many years.

I suppose I am left scratching my head and wondering, "Why, Why!"

Joey Geraci

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

But it's so fat! 1 cm thicker than the iPod nano...

I'm shopping for an Mp3 player and although the Sandisk Express + MicroSD card is cheaper, has more features and I wouldn't have to bother with iTunes, I'll probably buy a nano anyway because of that extra centimeter.

henrik

Comments on SanDisk's Sansa Express takes its turn, gets reviewed

Is this supposed to be a successor to the c200? This is my personal deciding factor on buying this. I'm very impressed by the size and features, especially the usb plug, but after reading the post on the Zen v and reading up on the Zen v plus, it's a toss up on this and the Zen v plus. This purchase was a no-brainer.
Compatibility with Rhapsody to go (and other music subscription services) is what initially sold me. At $15/ month for unlimited music on my Sansa Express (and my Roku), this to me is the only way to go if you're always looking for new music. Dumping iTunes was an easy decision, especially after my 3rd (!) ipod's battery died. With an additional $30 2GB MicroSD card, as far as I can calculate (@128Kbps) this little gem will hold around 40 ALBUMS! This is just me, but that's plenty of content to have on hand between synchs. I'm actually using my old ipod buds for now and they sound decent. The included earbuds on the Sansa are awful. The biggest surprise in this player was the clarity and strength of the FM tuner. This is a nice little bonus, and pretty useful, since it has the record-from-FM feature. All else has been properly described in the reviews - crisp display, direct USB connection, decent sound quality, etc..

So to summarize:
Sansa Express: $50
2GB MicroSD: $30
ipod buds: free
plus
Rhapsody to go: $15/month
and Rhapsody will switch all your iTunes over with a single click....

audiopro07
