World's "only" PowerFest '94 SNES cartridge up for auction
We have to admit, we've seen some pretty zany stuff in the Nintendo realm this month, but this one probably takes top honors. For the fanboys and girls, the words "PowerFest '94" and "Nintendo World Championships II" immediately incite fits of giddiness, and for those sulking in the uninformed camp, here's the skinny: just 32 of these brutally ugly and oversized cartridges were ever manufactured, and after the round of tournaments played with them in 1994, all but one was reportedly "given back to Nintendo and reused for parts." The cart itself housed Level 1-1 of Super Mario Lost Levels, five laps around the first track on Super Mario Kart, and a home run derby from Ken Griffey Jr. Winning Run, all of which were set to a timer and channeled out to other systems to monitor the scores of everyone involved. Needless to say, owning this prized possession could indeed fetch a pretty penny, and if you've ever wondered just how much a one of a kind SNES cart would run you, we'll give you 25,000 or so guesses. Click on through for a few more snapshots.

TJ @ Apr 27th 2007 10:02AM
No, they did not steal it... They just didn't return it lol.
Sheriff of Ballsville @ Apr 27th 2007 3:29AM
Why are they using fakeBay?
Nester @ Apr 27th 2007 3:53AM
I think because it's free, could you imagine the fee's for selling something thats $300K on feebay.
Sheriff of Ballsville @ Apr 27th 2007 4:07AM
was curious about that, too...
eBay selling fees:
Equal to or Over $1000.01
5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31),
plus 3.25% of the initial $25.01 - $1,000.00 ($31.69),
plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1000.01 - closing value)
Dustin @ Apr 27th 2007 4:34AM
Using your tables, that would be $393 if sold for $25k (opening bid) or $4518 if sold for $300k (buy it now price)
Mike @ Apr 27th 2007 7:18AM

I'd totally be in the bidding for this if I didn't already have my money tied up in "Ken Griffey Jr - Race to the Disabled List"
Thomas Kelly @ Apr 27th 2007 12:32PM
Albany, NY huh? I am actually in Albany right now. Wish I knew who owned it, I would love to just check it out.
Mr. T @ Apr 27th 2007 3:12PM
Email the seller and tell him you have $300k burning a hole in your pocket, I'm sure he will let you take a look at it.
Grant @ Apr 27th 2007 1:25PM
thats one interesting cart, i would love to know how nintendo put that thing together, kinda looks like it could possibly have all the full games on it, but just allows for the certain levels to be played.

Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run didn't come out until 1996, after he scored the "winning run" against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series in 1995, a moment Mariners fans will never forget. If this is from '94, it contains homerun derby from Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball...but if memory serves, there was no homerun derby feature in Major League Baseball...
Mr. T @ Apr 27th 2007 3:03PM
I have Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball I got it in 94 and it did have a homerun derby.
Miguel @ Apr 27th 2007 3:24PM
I used to own it, but got rid of my SNES in a foolish pre-teen fit of "OMG, the N64 will replace all!" I was speaking from memory. I have since bought another SNES console, but no Major Leage Baseball yet.
Mr. T @ Apr 27th 2007 3:09PM
Did you guys see someone placed a bid

WTF is he smoking?
Mr. T @ Apr 27th 2007 3:34PM
That's so funny, I got rid of my NES because of the SNES. When you're young the only things that matter are at that moment.

Imagine what a k of ram cost then.
It is amazing what these software / hardware developers did with what we now consider puny resources.
They went to the moon on 8 k

I love the people complaining about eBay's pricing scheme... Yeah, it would suck to shell out over four grand in fees - I don't deny that - but if I just sold something for THREE HUNDRED grand, yeah, I think I can spare 4. Oh no! Now I only have $296k left over. Whatever will I do?
ignition. @ May 1st 2007 3:20AM
Jeff, you see...
one of the reasons why the rich are rich is because when they make $300k, they don't figure they can just "spare" $4k. $4000 is a lot of money, no matter how you see it. And when you can easily forgo paying that fee, why wouldn't you?
I'm sure the anybody looking for a one-of-a-kind SNES cartridge, will bid regardless of what auction site its posted on. They won't just stop and say, "oh... pity I only have an eBay account"

its the real deal
and the seller is an honest guy,
i know him from the powerfest
http://www.snesmaps.com/maps/NintendoPowerFest94/NintendoPowerFest94.html
there is no rom (believe me ive been looking), this is the only known cartridge to surface in 13 years
all the other ones were dissasembled for a and refurbished into different competion carts for blockbuster video in 95
