What exactly makes this laptop a "desktop replacement" laptop? Aside from only being a 15.4" laptop, the specs all seem pretty average...... it seems indistinguishable from most other middle-of-the-road 15.4" notebooks, none of which I've ever seen described as DTR's.

Zadillo

Comments on Averatec's 15.4-inch 6700 "desktop replacement"

Zadillo: it has less battery life.

darkman131

Comments on Averatec's 15.4-inch 6700 "desktop replacement"

As an Averatec customer, I'm forced to say that their brand is worthless.

I bought a Tablet PC from them, a C3500. The laptop's battery is about 20 mins, with WiFi turned off. It overheats. It overheats so much, it shuts off itself to save it from exploding (At least it doesnt pack a Sony-made battery, heh).

The stylus doesnt work that well either. I regret not getting the Acer tablet, as my cousin recommended.

Not sure about 'this year's model', but I would never buy another Averatec product in my life.

Nushio

Comments on Averatec's 15.4-inch 6700 "desktop replacement"

I'm dislike putting brands down from my singular experience - but I think Averatec is a brand that should be avoided at ALL COSTS. Yes, their laptops are cheap - thats why I bought a 6100 in the first place. But that "cheap" comes at a price, their techs suck - and they NEVER EVER update their drivers, unless they are forced to. So while you'll get a decent graphics card, after a few months the drivers will be so out of date, it will be useless for games.

This is exactly what happened to me. I bought my 6100 and a year later they still had not updated the drivers even once. I called and begged and begged, with no avail. I ended up filling several complaints with the BBB, which managed to get them to update their drivers - once. Once in the entire life of this laptop. Now, I know drivers might not be a big deal to some - but this give you an idea of their level of customer service.

Averatec's moto should be "You bought, your Sh$t out of luck".

Jon

Comments on Averatec's 15.4-inch 6700 "desktop replacement"

What!?

How can a notebook even come CLOSE to being considered a desktop replacement with a Radeon Express 1100 chip? I could be wrong, but anytime i've seen that video chipset, it's been integrated.

So tell me why I should spend this amount of $$ on a sub-standard brand with horrible customer service and no capacity for self-service with integrated video?

How about we really take a look at the details of these things before we just throw a company's press release up on the main page? I mean, i've been searching for 15 minutes and I can't find any information that states what size memory is allocated for the graphic adapter.

Gizmodo-folksen, can you get this info? It's kind of a big deal if you're going to sell a "desktop replacement" notebook which is going to even think of running Vista Home Premium with its basic capabilities.

Come on, guys!

Joe schneider

Comments on Averatec's 15.4-inch 6700 "desktop replacement"

eek. ...and there lies the biggest problem of feed-reading.
