There's a large difference between a peaceful protest march (however giant it may be), and a riot that endangers persons and property. One is a necessity in democratic society, and I hope no one here proposes limits on that; the other infringes on others' rights and freedoms and should be controlled by lawful means.

Having said that, since when is a firearm 'not a weapon' just because it's non-lethal? Proven, eh? So, it's a fact then? I must have missed that episode of Mythbusters because I really can't recall anyone ever PROVING that the majority of police officers are in fact power-hungery, abusive bullies (taking from elsewhere in your comment).

Now, I could be wrong, but I have the strange feeling that it's actually opinion that you're talking about. A pretty silly one at that. Just because you know some officers which, in your opinion, are the above, doesn't mean all or most officers are the same way. If, say I knew three people of minority 'a' and they were all drug dealers, would it be correct for me to say it's proven that most people of minority 'a' are drug dealers? ..yeah.. that would be wrong, but no different than what you're doing.

These would be more apt to be facts:

Blind them with the pepper or the xenon lights, get close and shock them so they fall over, use the ziptie cannon to bind their hands, mark them with a paint cartridge (so there's a record of which officer made the arrest, as each would have a different color) and if they try to run, shoot them in the legs with a rubber bullet.

You could incapacitate a person and prep them for arrest in mere seconds. haha are you serious? Here in New Zealand the police were recently introduced to Tasers and there's huge controversy over whether this is a good idea.
The general sentiment is, when the police don't have weapons the thugs don't need weapons to fight back, ergo, a less violent society.
