A 160GB disk could be expected to have over 50% more sustained transfer rate than 100GB at the same rotational speed. Going from 160GB/5400 to 100GB/7200 has almost no speed advantage - better seek times, but same or worse transfer rate depending on how much data is on the drive.

I am just gnashing my teeth because HD speed is really the only issue with my middle-aged Centrino Duo 2GHz. I never wait for anything except the HD.
