Playing a portable console on a static
PC may seem little backward, but the
PSP homebrew community seems to have no qualms about creating two separate ways of getting their PSP games to play on their 'puter. The first is a little more conventional in that it's apparently the first working PSP emulator for the PC. So far the only proof is some screenshots of various commercial and non-commercial 2D PSP games, so
if you want to be a doubting Thomas it's your prerogative. The second option for PSP on PC action uses a piece of homebrew software called RemoteJoy and a simple USB cable, which apparently lets you see and remotely control your PSP through your computer. The evidence here is a lot more convincing, with a shaky YouTube video after the break showing keyboard control, completely synced screens, and daunting command lines. These latest examples just make us wonder what the PSP could be capable of if Sony stopped holding back, or -- dare we say it? -- started supporting its
homebrew community. Then again, we can't deny relishing the subversive element of the whole scene.

I just hope that after that psp piracy wont explode....
EdZ @ May 12th 2007 5:32PM
What's this got to do with piracy? Anyway, PSP ISOs can already be run off of a memory stick.
Ayle @ May 12th 2007 5:57PM
You still have to buy a psp to use it so they only loose the software sale... If you start running iso on pc then they lose both hardware and software sales....
Jake @ May 12th 2007 8:47PM
Ayle: Sony would make much more money on software sales, so the fact you can already play pirated games makes this not an issue. People who are/were going to buy a PSP and not going to go "ok, I can play PSP games at my desk at home, so now I won't go buy a PSP". Anyone actually planning on buying one most likely still will, as nothing is going to be able to emulate the portability.

I don't really understand why Sony is supporting homebrew on the PS3, but not the PSP.
iSpork @ May 12th 2007 6:27PM
maybe because supporting homebrew will give at least *some* people a reason to buy a PS3.. I personally don't want one either way, not until the price becomes a bit more sane.

If I could use a pc controller to remotely control the psp displaying video on my psp, I would seriously consider donating to the dev.

iSpork, are you from the year 2000?

Wow, I never really thought about it that way. I have always liked the PS3 for its graphics muscle, and ability to run linux and blu ray movies. But haveing historical context like that makes it all teh sweeter.
Ayle @ May 12th 2007 10:44PM
You have a point, I didn't think of it that way...
SOyuncastor @ May 12th 2007 9:15PM
Does this mean finally we be able to play street fighter with a nice controller?
Im thinking usb joystick or even better yet a sidewinder gamepad (joystick port)
shimman @ May 13th 2007 11:01AM
maybe, this will give yet another excuse for sony to blame slow sales
Juan @ May 13th 2007 11:56AM
Being able to run it on my PC, but requiring an actual PSP connected through a cable, sounds like a nice compromise. The kind Sony should officially support.
rogercamel @ May 14th 2007 6:23AM
If you can send video through the usb to the now all they need to do is make a device to plug into ur usb and go to a tv, then we could be playing movies or games on the tv with the psp as the controller. now thats something i would definitely buy.
