ITs almost better to just buy the TV series on standard DVD. Its easier and more efficient.

I was considering which was better - buying Xbox 360 cards so I could download movies/tv shows to my 120GB HDD or if I should just buy on DVD.
It occured to me that since you cannot get anything OFF of the 360's hard disk drive that downloading movies/shows to it was a waste of money. I recommend people start switching to usenet, which already has a stable support group of request/fill groups in the alt.binaries.* community. I downloaded a 1:1 copy (aside from the protection that allows you to copy a blu-ray without special hardware/software/hacks/etc) of a Blu-Ray movie and it was interesting to see on my PC (I owe a retail/legal copy of the movie, and what I did was still not technically legal jptech... thankfully usenet seems to be immune aside from the very few takedown notice, which you'd have to send to all the major usenet servers, and it'd be too late by then anyway if they even take notice).

I'd talk about the legality of it more, but there is plenty written about it on the internet. BTW, if you are interested in usenet downloading, you will want/need an account that allows for unlimited monthly bandwidth. If you live in the us I recommend www.newshosting.com (no referrer number from me, I am not greedy), they offer a 15$/month plan unlimited plan that I've able able to max out at 8mbits - 10mbits per second with my home line... lol at college we just happened to peer with them and I used to get 35mbits+ with only a few threads). If you have a few more bucks to spend, www.giganews.com offers the BEST usenet service in North America/Eastern Europe and possibly outside of these areas. They offer the best speeds (I've heard some people say they can get up to 80mbits, but I wouldn't expect that kind of performance for the regular joe =). Last time I checked they were offering a deal for one of their unlimited plans that was 10/15$ cheaper and supported SSL address (the same kind of privacy you get when you see that lock icon in your browser). Also if this sounds Greek to you (and you don't know Greek), my favourite site for P2P news and file trading in general is www.slyck.com and I think Engadget should defiantly highlight it sometime.

I've already written more than I wanted to write consider I need to be awake in 4 hours for a photoshoot, however to stay on topic, I've been using blu-ray technology from Sony for a few years now, called PDD (or Professional Disc for Data). It holds about as much data as a single-layer blu-ray drive but comes in a protective shell (much like the early PC CDs (if anyone remembers those). As soon as we verify that Blu-Ray will have at least a 25 year life-span, we will most likely switch to the technology and replace the current SCSI-drives. I cannot speak of the company I work for (I am not a full time employee either but hope to be so soon =). We are currently recording a feature with multiple HD 1080p capable cameras that I hope will live up to such work as "Planet Earth".

I have to say as a playback forward, I love HD-DVD, but will most likely use Blu-Ray for work and play (I hope they keep getting better in quality, then I won't feel so foolish). Everyone says HD-DVD looks better than Blu-ray, and everyone is talking about history repeating... but didn't Betamax look better than VHS? =p

- Tony R. (tired and lacking caffeine, this is going to be hell-week all over again, just when I got out of college too x.x).

Tony Rayo

Comments on Ritek gets green light for rewritable BD and HD DVD discs

...But will it blend?

NovaLand

Comments on Ritek gets green light for rewritable BD and HD DVD discs

With the kind of density these discs have, one minor scratch might be all it takes to render gigabytes of date unreadable.
