Big Xbox announcement tomorrow? We're so not holding our breath
With the Pac-Man World Championships set to go down in New York tomorrow, earth shattering events are bound to happen, right? That's the word from Gamertag Radio's Godfree anyway, who says he was chatting up Xbox's Aaron Greenberg about the Tuesday event, and Aaron mentioned that "we have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history." We're fairly positive that nothing Microsoft could possibly announce tomorrow could live up to that sort of hype, and it seems even less likely that this will be anything hardware related, but we're always willing to be proven wrong. We were planning on hanging out on this mortal coil for at least the next 24 hours or so anyways, so there's no harm done either way.[Thanks, Nick P]

I bet it's downloadable games.
M Burke @ Jun 4th 2007 8:32PM
Xbox 360 already has downloadable games...
Bjarke @ Jun 5th 2007 5:13AM
Not XBLA games, the real ones
TheMan @ Jun 4th 2007 5:02PM
I just read this on xbox360fanboy. But here i think this is their announcement: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/jun07/06-04IgnitionLaunchPR.mspx
Matt B @ Jun 4th 2007 5:04PM
A white 360 with HDMI 1.2?
Tony Bowman @ Jun 4th 2007 5:10PM
as i said on XB360F, i'm guessing it's a Surface-based gaming machine of some sort; basically a 360/Surface mashup.
EDomain @ Jun 4th 2007 5:11PM
With a line like:
"we have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history."
it had better be something pretty damn fantastic-- go down in video game history? That is saying alot, and the 3 comments previous to mine don't measure up to "going down in video game history".
I am expecting quite a lot here---- thsat is a BOLD statement.
dustandechoes91 @ Jun 4th 2007 5:14PM
Im gonna guess something to do with making your own games, M$ buying out sony or nintendo(less likely), or something do do with online play(such as compatability between systems, or something better)
Or gates admits hes gay
Ryhan @ Jun 4th 2007 5:20PM
After the whole leg-crossing thing with Steve Jobs, probably the latter :)
CharlieX @ Jun 4th 2007 5:16PM
My Xbox360 just broke for the second time in two months.... how about they announce "Now with better production quality!"
Ismael @ Jun 4th 2007 5:20PM
"We're fairly positive that nothing Microsoft could possibly announce tomorrow could live up to that sort of hype"
Why are you being so pessimistic..
Josef F @ Jun 4th 2007 5:24PM
Because it's not an Apple product.
natef @ Jun 4th 2007 5:22PM
Anyone who actually expects to hear an historic announcement tomorrow (at a Pacman championship...) is delusional.
It will be some lame PR announcement that Major Nelson could have quitely posted on his blog (if not for the current level of hype).
Ismael @ Jun 4th 2007 5:26PM
God i couldn't agree more.
Josh H. @ Jun 4th 2007 5:25PM
Ya...Mine just broke last week. I don't like their products at all but I thought the Xbox had the PS3 beat. I guess you have to take the negative with the positives. Good system by a bad company...
CharlieX @ Jun 4th 2007 5:36PM
The one shining gem is that my 1st repair was turned over in a single day... so I only had to wait 5 days with shipping to get my 360 back. Credit for speedy repairs.
Waitupasec @ Jun 4th 2007 5:25PM
Yeah its a good thing that microsofts xbox wasn't the first to have good online gameplay right? I mean who plays on xbox live anyways. Try not to let your silly little childish biases get in the way of your shitty writing.
jere @ Jun 4th 2007 6:51PM
I like my 360 AND my ipod, but come on; how big of an announcement could it be? What's there to announce?
Simon P @ Jun 4th 2007 5:33PM
I'm guessing it'll be a whole new take on the Pac-Man thing, possibly based on his wife and why not call it Ms Pac-Man? That'd be genius.
saccorator @ Jun 4th 2007 8:51PM
"we have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history." - maybe they'll announce the Xbox 360 is a disposable game system.
mheimlic @ Jun 4th 2007 5:43PM
"Today we announce, with great pleasure... the Z-Box. It has HD-DVD built right in, and HDMI 1.2 standard! It comes with a towel packed in the box, and your own person MS tech to take your money and repair it when that stops working, cuz, you know, things break. It comes with a brochure about how you can buy wi-fi adapter, and another insert about how to acquire shiny new proprietary overpriced Hard Drive. only $600, but hey, think of the money you'll save on heating!"
mheimlic @ Jun 4th 2007 5:43PM
"Also... HDDVD is the new game standard" *quickly runs away to avoid angry fans*
Ismael @ Jun 4th 2007 5:43PM
I think they will announce the folding at home thing (but thats not something historical.. helpful to humanity nontheless)
SilkyZ @ Jun 4th 2007 5:45PM
XBOX PORTABLE!!!
I put a cookie on it.

Ray tracing for all 360 games?
Henry @ Jun 4th 2007 6:36PM
Raytracing? How about stochastic radiosity!?
I'd buy that for a dollar!
dave @ Jun 4th 2007 6:13PM
halo beta for all.

It's the new "Oh".
"When I first saw it, really first saw it up close... the first think that came to mind was... Oh."
potentato @ Jun 4th 2007 7:00PM
My guess is that they'll stop charging for Xbox Live. That would be pretty major and fairly easy to keep quiet in advance of any announcement.
Tony C @ Jun 5th 2007 7:43AM
O M G
That would be sweet, but I hope not! I just activated a 12+1 card yesterday!! =(
Lee Howley @ Jun 4th 2007 7:02PM
Heh what about a portable, I remember hearing about rumurs way back in the day and every one just assumed it was the zune. Microsoft has yet to enter the portable game market. A handheld xbox would definatly change the world a little, not to much.
S @ Jun 4th 2007 7:19PM
HORSE ARMOR.
Dorian @ Jun 4th 2007 7:26PM
Guess #1: It has something to do with the Live Vision Camera (I'm still waiting for Microsoft to live up to their promises on this device).
Guess #2: It has something to do with the "Viral Videos" category under the videos menu on the dashboard.
Guess #3: Forget Folding@Home - SETI@Home FTK!!!
K.R @ Jun 4th 2007 7:32PM
probably still a long shot, but it would make me oh so happy if announcement were an xbox portable....
L @ Jun 4th 2007 7:59PM
maybe its a price cut of some sort? (lower xbl subscription fee, more platinum hit games, cheaper 360s, etc) or maybe something like halo 3 for the zune
atomicmatt @ Jun 4th 2007 8:47PM
This could be something:
The Xbox 360 “Pac-Man” World Champion will receive worldwide acclaim from being the first-ever Xbox 360 “Pac-Man” World Champion and gain a place in gaming history. The winner of the finals will also receive other great prizes, including 26 years of free Quiznos toasted subs (one sandwich a week for 26 years, a $13,520 (U.S.) value), 100,000 Microsoft Points for games, movies and other fun content available on Xbox LIVE, and a one-of-a-kind Xbox 360 featuring a special design inspired by “Pac-Man.”
Dave @ Jun 4th 2007 10:16PM
"Or gates admits he's gay."
This possibility seems to be being overlooked; it would certainly go down in video game history and there isn't much else that would live up to their claim.

If it really is something big, perhaps it has something to do with the Zune 2.0 that was "supposed" to be announced on the 1st? Zune 2.0 is coming for the fall (rumoured anyway) and early on there was talk about the Zune and portable gaming. To be fair though that was around the time of a possible Zune phone too. Anyway that's my guess.
lawrence @ Jun 5th 2007 2:23AM

My world-class guess:
Microsoft reveals that a Pac-man game is included hidden in ROM on every xbox

We have bought both Sony and Nintendo and will be making a super console introducing the "WiiS3 60"
charlie @ Jun 5th 2007 12:48PM
wifi priced dropped along with the xbox and other accessories, and so did xbln, yes sony fused with us to have one big gaming industry, we will handle the production of software, games ,etc and sony will handle the hardware to make sure every thing runs 4 a life time, psn and xbl have fused together to be one online service called xbln and will be free or very low subscription costs, AND WILL WILL HAVE THE SAME GAMES FOR MULITI-PLAYER CROSS-PLATFORM YES THAT MEANS XBOX360-PS3-WINDOWSLIVE-AND VISTA ALL UNDER ONE ROOF. NOW ISN'T THAT A BIG ANNOUCEMENT IN GAMING HISTORY". APPLAUSE---- CHANTING: "DOWN WITH WII PS360"
