I realize IBM offers all those custom "services" for this Thinkpad, but would anyone seriously use all that on a system like this? I really don't think so. So I'd have to say, $5000 for those specs and some cow is ridiculous.

For $3500, I could buy myself an Asus VX2S Santa Rosa (due this month, I believe), which (apart from the WWAN) is MUCH better spec'd, and like the VX2, comes with a carbon fiber exterior, leather interior with the same style stitching you'd find in a Lamborghini, and accessories (which includes a matching mouse, leather mouse pad, mouse bag, cleaning cloth, and a superbly nice leather computer bag (with both computer and bag adorned with one small Lambo badge a piece). Whether someone is a fan of the Lambo styling or not, it's very tastefully done and makes the system just as beautiful as it is powerful. Then of course, I'd have $1500 left over for any other gadgets or accessories and a great lunch for two. :) Personally, I just think that would be a better way to spend $5000.

1hr wait on the phone, no replies to emails, are just the beginning of the nightmare for customers who ordered the Thinkpad T61 in may. The new customers who ordered in June are happily getting their laptops while the ones ordered in May still doesn't know when they'll get theirs.

That's what I'd do. Make them put Linux on it. Then call them in to replace all the hardware that wasn't supported...

Nah. Nevermind. Let's not dream of ways to give 'em trouble.
