I was expecting to be able to configure a Dell Inspiron 1520 cheaper than an Asus G1S. But even with my education discount, it isn't that much cheaper really. I just configured a system similar to the G1S (2.2 GHz C2D, Vista Home Premium, 1680x1050 15.4" screen, 256MB 8600M GT, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, bluetooth, etc.) and it came to $1954 (that does include the DellCare Plus stuff though) after educational discount (full price of $2393). After the additional 12% off (thanks to buying a system bundled with 3 year service), the final price was $1719, or $1805 for me after taxes.

Certainly not bad by any means, but it's not really amazingly cheaper to me than the other similarly spec'd laptops I was looking at; Asus G1S (which is $1999 without any sort of educational discount) and the base model MBP (which only has a knock against it compared to the Inspiron because of 128MB of VRAM instead of 256). Even factoring in paying for AppleCare, the MBP is only a couple hundred more (and this is factoring in all the Dell discounts and such), which is not as wide a gap as I was expecting.

I was just thinking that the Dell would be a lot cheaper than the Asus G1S or MBP.

Zadillo

Comments on Dell's XPS m1330 and Inspiron laptops now on-line

Does anyone know when they'll be available in Europe (specifically Ireland)?

conmulligan

Comments on Dell's XPS m1330 and Inspiron laptops now on-line

I just pimped out a m1330 for $2,300 and sold my MacBook, w00t!

Skrilla

Comments on Dell's XPS m1330 and Inspiron laptops now on-line

Personally I don't like how this laptop looks.
On top of that, I don't think how your computer works is important in the least.
