You can get away with using normal headphones most of the time, but the 4 connector plug works better. Also, you can use a 4 connector video adapter for camcorders to output audio to RCA style connectors. I feel that the cord is too long (about a foot longer than the standard ear buds) and don't like that the plug is L-shaped. But the sound quality on them is terrific. Would anyone recommend that I return the Shure's and go with the V-Moda instead? They were definatly worth the 100 dollars, and i emiled v-moda the other day after i got my iphone because they didnt fit in  the hole and they said that they would upgrade me to the new pnes for 60% off the retail price so for 40 bucks i can pgrade mine to the new ones. I wouldn't think of using a cheap pair of earphones to listen to music on my iPhone. I've got the original V-Moda's Vibe, Etymotic's ER-6i isolators, Shure E4C & E500PTH. The V-Moda's and the Shure's are my favorites. I may pick up the Vibe Duo if I can find it available in my area. I don't understand why people here like them so much. The sound quality wasn't that good. Lots of bass but that doesn't equal good quality. They were lacking in depth and balance, total style over substance. Mine also broke (sound only came out off one side) after about 3 months. Wouldn't touch these with a barge pole.
