and why do people like you keep on referring it to a "smartphone"? it's not... it's a multi-touch phone that has 4/8gb embedded that focuses on media and internet browsing... the next closest thing springs to mind is the nokia N91 and it is nowhere near as sleek nor popular (the sales number says it all)... if you claim that it does 'next to nothing' then please name a phone you have in mind with the emphasised function of the iphone - a multi-media sleek phone with multi-touch technology. struggling? thought so...

to your second paragraph, i dont refer to it as a smartphone, i refer to it as a souped up nano. And it does to next to nothing, when you look at all the things PalmOS and Windows mobile devices can. And another product like the iPhone, that has more functions you ask? http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=13082 I dont know to much about it, other than that. And there are many other touch-based multi media devices out there, just look outside the tv ads.

And glad that your cashing in on their stocks. that was the clear goal of this product, cash. And it dosnt cater to me either, hence why i dislike it so much. the only real reason its so popular, is because its hip to have. It dosnt matter what it can do, if it makes you cool, people will buy it (another reason why i hate it) Imo, its nothing new to me, i have had previous devices that can do similar things, the iphone has useless features, and dosnt even innovate on what it is, a phone. I own a Nokia smart phone and only played with an iPhone for half an hour. But it was enough to make it very clear that the iPhone enables the features it has for the rest of us. On the N95, you _can_ do a lot of stuff. On the iPhone, you _want to_ do a lot of stuff because it's a pleasure to use.

For the operators, this is a complete revolution - a device that actually makes good use of their data networks. For the first time, no less. On other phones the data features are so bad ordinary people don't bother to sign up for data plans.

Blackberry and Apple are now the only makers of smart phones that actually care about usability.

But the AT&T swipe had me ROTFLMAO. Now it's classic.

On a side note, I went to another Apple Store in a mall in NJ, and looked at the iPhone again. This time, there was no WiFi - only the AT&T Edge.

My GOD it was BUTT-SLOW!

Playing with it some more, I realized the problem I have with the phone: Almost all of it's functions are touchscreen. While that may "sound" cool, in practice, it's not. Essentially, you have to look at the screen to know what you're doing. Just on a simple phone concept, this can be a HUGE hinderance. I realized how much I automatically know what buttons I'm pressing on my phone because I can feel where I am.
