It just doesn't happen to be the Blu-ray part of it. Why?

Because Blu-ray on the PS3 is the GAMING media, it's not just some drive they threw in for people to watch flicks.

The PS3 is about high def gaming. You can't fit high def content on DVDs period (nothing worthwhile at least). The difference being that for the Xbox360, no games will EVER be made that exceeds the capacity of what a DVD can hold. Which would tax Blu-Ray also. But that game is the exception.
I think that DVD is just fine for games.

My only gripe with the 360 was HDMI (which I have an Elite so no problem now). Proprietary storage. The Wii and PS3 lets me use regular SD cards to save and transfer stuff. No upgradeable hard drive. This entire 20gb vs 120gb fiasco could have been avoided if they would have let us upgrade the drive with our own equipment. Lastly the core SKU. I'm not sure if there are games out there that are checking to see if you have a drive and using it for caching content if you. But console owners that have a drive should benefit from having it.
One thing that I notice on the PS3 is that games will ask you if you want to install some content on the drive. 360 games should do the same thing.

CaptCaveman

Comments on

@jimothy:
wverything that the premium has that the core doesnt IS available to purchase separately.

@captcaveman
i currently have a 200gb hard drive in my 360, albeit its not from microsoft and it did take some soldering and firmware adn data transfers, but its there nonetheless. i do agree that it would have been better if it was possible to do this more easily.

tehpwnmstr

Comments on

microsoft doesn't have anything to worry about, out of the 3 consoles, i recommend the 360 over all just because of it HUGE and BALANCED library of games and its great graphics. the price isn't that bad either.

the wii still kicks ass though LOL. i'm glad he had good things to say about it!

whatchaknow

Comments on

wow that was uncomfortable to read... why did he dance around the importance issue, and get so conveniently stopped at the end there. seems to me that 'there's more then meets the eye'...

DatBoyC-lo

Comments on

Nice interview Ryan. Way to hammer him.

That said, Peter Moore just continues to prove himself a jackass. The constant arguing about the PS3 price drop, the dig about Konami and MGS 4... followed by more dodging of the failure rate stuff. The 'we don't want to try to explain to the consumer what we're going different.. it's complex' nonsense is insulting. Microsoft doesn't want to be honest about it, so they insult the intelligence of the consumer, and the engadget community? Fuck that.

Honestly I think Microsoft is scared. I mean its nice for them to push technology forward but will anyone make real use of BR for games right now? not really. The add-on system works better IMO cause the initial system is gonna be cheaper and you could always upgrade in the future.

I don't know. I buy a system based on games and on nothing else. But what a jerk. It's clear to me now why Microsoft will never make the great second fortune they so desperately seek. They have more money than brains. How can you charge off over one billion dollars and refuse to give your customers any details about what you're allegedly fixing? They are arrogant and will fail in the gaming market, just like they've failed in every endeavor they've tried, except the operating system market where they got lucky and stuck the world with their bloated operating systems. It hacks me off that I have to read this crap the day after mailing my dead 360 in for repairs, and this creep won't even indicate what they're fixing. Why does everyone feel like they deserve to know what was breaking in a machine that consists of hundreds of components supplied by dozens of manufacturers assembled by multiple companies? In fact, I'd bet they're just trying not to embarrass a few companies who made failure-prone components. They think that the issues have been solved, so let it stand. It's not like them saying what was wrong will make you able to fix your own box.

Also, while Peter was definitely pulling some PR fuzzing, I'd say some of the interview questions were a bit aggressive/hostile, and Peter responded defensively to those questions. Why do think textures in Oblivion on the PS3 are a little sharper, the graphics slightly better and it comes with the Knights of the Nine add-on? Because they didn't have to "fit" the game on the media. They have the luxury of using higher quality assets without worrying about filling up the media. The game developers have more space to play with and will be able to deliver more content. I'm only trying to explain the logic behind choosing an HD media format over an SD one, I'm not saying PS3 has better games or anything because currently it doesn't.

"so far, we haven't seen games maxed out above 8.5 gigs affecting their presence on the 360"

We haven't seen that happen yet because the PS3 is the first console to use HD media and it's hardly 8 months old.
