I guess you just start walking (and cranking) until you find an area with electricity (towers working)...in which then you could've just walked and plugged in your phone!

I can't believe I even have to point this out. If your car goes dead and you have to walk somewhere or wait for help and your phone is dead....ta-daa! Crank the cell phone charger up! The towers will still work for you.
Even if you are in an area without service while hiking, etc, you can walk to an in service area and not worry about not having a phone to use!
