Logitech G9 gaming mouse caught in the wild?
We lucky lads here in North America have been enjoying a few of Logitech's finer offerings of late, but a mysterious foreign site has seemingly leaked a few snapshots of a new Logitech gaming mouse. Of course, we wouldn't put it past China to crank out a perfectly pathetic knockoff, but the "G9 Laser" stamp does hint that this may be a (very) early production model of the G7 (or G5's) eventual successor. Interestingly enough, this model appears to have shifted back to the tailed approach, sports removable / changeable faceplates, dons a number of macro buttons and flashly LED lights, and includes a top-mounted battery compartment to boot. Only time will tell, but judging solely by how incredibly unsightly this thing is, we're leaning towards the faux camp for now. No way in hell! You're just having a slow news day where you have report on every fake POS you can find.
strider_mt2k @ Jul 21st 2007 1:08PM
Quit yer bitchin', Mary.
sr1329 @ Jul 21st 2007 2:54PM
That thing is so obviously fake that even an imbecile can tell at a glance. Garbage like this just brings a site's quality down even with the multiple disclaimers.
Delir1um @ Aug 19th 2007 12:16AM
check logitech website. lol. u just got served.
sr1329 @ Aug 19th 2007 12:09PM
Okay you win. I'm wrong.
zonamanoz @ Jul 21st 2007 12:49PM
Battery compartment for a wired mouse? Hmmm....
Lawrence @ Jul 21st 2007 12:57PM
Good point! Does that cord even look real? looks like a peice of string to me and how comes the lights are on when the battery compartment is open.
Jon @ Jul 21st 2007 1:02PM
looks more like a weight compartment similar to the G5.
zonamanoz @ Jul 21st 2007 1:02PM
The so called "battery compartment" is most likely the weight holder.
NovaLand @ Jul 21st 2007 1:23PM
That string is how logitechs cords looks like.. Feels and looks like a rope (or actually more like dynamite fuse). Is there any pro/con with it? not really.. it's probably just for looks.
Tavis Veighey @ Jul 21st 2007 1:26PM
The cord is wrapped in fabric, this is to prevent tangles and kinks. My wife has a headset for her cell that has the same kind of wires. It is a brilliant idea, as she just stuffs her headset into her purse, and then pulls it out when she needs it, and no tangles!
Darmichar @ Jul 21st 2007 1:30PM
The cord looks like some shielded USB cords I have seen in the past. Perhaps a wireless mouse that recharges through USB? I'd love to have a mouse that I could plug in to USB, still use it as a wired mouse, then unplug it once it's charged and have wireless too.
Zombie Dog @ Jul 21st 2007 2:41PM
That's no battery compartment, that's an ashtray.
Nikita @ Jul 21st 2007 12:52PM
It looks like a gaming mouse from 1999
Codex @ Jul 21st 2007 2:36PM
Agreed.
This 'mouse' is the ugliest piece of crap ever seen. If this is true (which i HIGHLY doubt) I will never buy another Logitech mouse again.
strider_mt2k @ Jul 21st 2007 3:28PM
So you won't buy from a company any more if it makes even ONE thing you don't like or approve of?
Good luck with THAT.
qwert @ Jul 21st 2007 12:56PM
apart from the colors (and the fact that i would have no use for it) this would match perfectly for my C128.
back to the future
strider_mt2k @ Jul 21st 2007 1:09PM
Sure doesn't LOOK like a Logitech, but we've been surprised by them before.
Pedro @ Jul 21st 2007 1:09PM
I say it's fake.
1. Batteries for a wired mouse? No way! And yes it is a battery compartment - there are battery springs. Weight carts have little cut out circles in them.
2. Look at http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/07/7-21-07-g9_4.jpg - the Logitech logo lucks like a transparent sticker.
3. It looks like shit.
Natedog @ Jul 21st 2007 2:30PM
That thing is ugly as sin. That's all I have to say.
l0b0t @ Jul 21st 2007 2:27PM
I just want to find a replacement for my beloved Cordless Trackman FX, the best thing Logitech has ever produced.
Paul @ Jul 21st 2007 2:39PM
This is a serious step back from the MX Revolution as far as design goes, it is the mode comfortable mouse I have ever used.
The lights under the left mouse button are in a horrible spot as well, as any "gamer" would have to take his finger off of the trigger button in order to read whatever information the lights are trying to provide.
sr1329 @ Jul 21st 2007 2:56PM
As an owner of the G7 and the MX700 before that, I can tell you for sure this is not the successor to the G7. Come on, the G7 has twin lithium ion batteries that just slide in on the bottom. How can the successor have a cord and space for AA batteries. Talk about a downgrade from twin lithium ion batteries and wireless.
nitr0gen @ Jul 21st 2007 3:12PM
cmon fellas....
Since when do prototypes look ANYTHING like the final models??
"z0mg!!11 I'll nevar buy another Logitech product if this is fo realz!"
keepevets @ Jul 23rd 2007 9:08AM
when ur talking about a mouse, the prototype IS the final, its just a mouse, the only thing that changes from models is the design, if its an early prototype, then its an early prototype from 1995
Chuckles McGee @ Jul 21st 2007 3:30PM
Looks like the bastard child of a normal mouse and a neon sign that played on the railroad tracks too long...
Dave @ Jul 21st 2007 3:39PM
It looks to me like it matches the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard pretty well. Of course, I think that keyboard is pretty ugly, too.
bert @ Jul 21st 2007 4:26PM
I think its real, just an early prototype. Look at the scroll wheel, its the newer revolution scroll wheel. I doubt a fake would have that kind of detail. I also think that its a weight compartment, and it doesn't have to be circular cutouts, they could have redesigned it. I have a G5, this mouse looks to have good functionality despite its looks, it has a seperate dedicated mechanism for the left click buttom, and the revolution scroll wheel, and still retain the high grade optical laser engine. I'm excited about this mouse, but i hope they restyle it...
ElMAGNiFiCO @ Jul 21st 2007 5:07PM
If this is the G9 then, I will keep my G5.
Jeff P. @ Jul 21st 2007 5:27PM
Am I the only one to notice that there appears to be no right mouse button?
Oh yeah, I agree, this thing is just plain butt-ugly.
Jackyshadow @ Jul 21st 2007 7:50PM
Dont judge it so soon.
I know it looks like shit. But look at Starcraft 2, at this stage it looks like shit as well.
My point is, never compare a prototype to a final product. This crappy looking mice might be there for core function testing purpose only. In this case they dont have to make it look nice or anything as it would be waste of money and efforts.
And I'm not surprised these pictures are leaked from China (notice the watermarks on the images), considering over 90% of Logitech product are made in China.
Danny @ Jul 21st 2007 11:17PM
wow, FUGLY
slackercow @ Jul 22nd 2007 12:39AM
lol. no.
Juaquin @ Jul 22nd 2007 5:55PM
I'll keep my Razer, thanks.
Mike @ Jul 22nd 2007 8:25PM
If the G7 comes with two rechargable lithium ion batteries for quick swapping, as well as the G7 and G5 both give you the option on the mouse to alter sensitivity, I have a hard time believing that the G9 not only uses AA's (at least from the looks of the compartment), but doesn't have sensitivity control nor sleek design. I call bluff.
Medjai @ Jul 24th 2007 11:29PM
Weird but I
NetNed @ Aug 1st 2007 1:57PM
Is there no one here that has a clue about electronics? Batteries?
Those tab are sure pointing a wierd way for batteries. Looks more like
tab to keep the compartment closed. Lets think about it, a usb mouse pulling
power from usb? Maybe? Even if the thing did have batteries for memory, I would
think they would be lithium rechargable long lasting and require disassembley to see.
Mike @ Aug 1st 2007 2:19PM
lol this thread just got a whole lot funnier
