Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours
According to Apple's Q3 financial results call, Apple sold 270,000 iPhones during the first 30 hours of sales -- the quarter ended on June 30th. Apple admitted to and apologized for activation problems, which would account for that 146,000 activations figure that AT&T released yesterday. As for sales past June 30th, Apple isn't saying much, but they do plan to be able to announce at least one million in sales by September 30th, and 10 million by the end of 2008. Apple reiterated launch plans for the iPhone in Europe, stating that it'll have the phone in a few "major" countries (Most likely UK, France and Germany) by Q4 2007, and hit the rest of Europe with the phone in 2008. Apple did mention "we'll have details later in the quarter about which carriers we'll be working with" as in, plural, so take that for what you will. During the call, Apple also admitted to an impending cashflow from AT&T, which had been speculated, and is most likely based on contract renewals and new subscribers that the iPhone nabs for AT&T. Apple will start counting the revenue in the September quarter, but didn't say anything else on the subject while dodging questions about Yahoo!, YouTube and Google contracts.[Thanks, Wildthing]

Can you really say 30 hours of sales? I'm pretty sure Apple was not able to log iPhones ordered but not shipped as sales. So most likely online orders did not count in those sales figures. So if we are saying store sales only, there were only about 21 hours of sales. From 6PM-12AM Friday and 9AM-12AM Saturday. Thats 21 hours. More math to confuse the topic.
Haha, People get ranked low because they havent seen an iPhone. Applefanboys are a unique bunch. If youre wondering how its possible for me to not ever see an iPhone then it might have something to do with my city only selling 105 units on launch day (it was reported by the news, we have no apple store and only a couple Cingular stores carried iPhones so it was easy to keep track of sales), none of the stores sold out. You can imagine my odds when the city has around 370,000 people, it also doesnt help that Cingular is a relatively new carrier here with a vast majority of people on Sprint. So to the Apple fanboys I apologize, my post wasnt meant to damage your pride, I was only stating the facts.
All the while you zuned bitches are desperately trying to find FUD fodder in the latest AAPL results, AAPL has jumped more than 13 POINTS (9.52%) after hours and reached $150.18 !! LOLOLOLOL!! officially earning me just over $10K in less than 6 weeks! Being an "Apple fanboy" never felt so good... Obviously, I am not the only investor feeling that these results are in fact extraordinary, and a prelude to $200 a share before year's end... Aahh, Life in Macland is sweet, indeed.
Iphone may look cool, but the cool stuff only works in select areas. Once people realize how much of a pain the touch screen is they will be selling it on ebay. The Iphone is going to kill ATT and Apple's stocks because sales will not keep up with the expectations of walstreet. The majority of people who bought the Iphone are young and broke, meaning they could afford the phone but not the 3G service. The Iphone is nothing more than a status symbol. The only thing that could save ATT and Apple is if they were to give Iphone users 3G data access for free. The High cost they are charging is going to deter many. Once the first Iphones are Unlocked ( hacked ), and make it to ebay, the unlocked ones won't be worth crap.
I like the touchscreen. I've had tons of people try out my iPhone (kids, coworkers, seniors, non-techies, super-geeks, and so on) and no one had any issues with the touchscreen. What are you basing your statement on? I also haven't had any issues with the 'cool stuff' working anywhere. None of the 20 or so people I know that bought one are young or broke; my older relatives will be getting one next month. And I'm not sure where you get that $20/month for unlimited data will make anyone broke. It's cheaper than my previous non-unlimited data plan! And the fact that you keep saying '3G' shows you have no clue what you are talking about (not that it wasn't already obvious).
I am glad you like your Iphone. I have had multiple touchscreen phones in the past and they all sucked. Everyone I talked to hated them too. Granted these were windows based phones, and I would hope that Apple would do a better job. Sorry about the 3G comment, I was mis informed. As I was under the impression 3G was in excess of 1mbps transfers, and with ATT you only are getting 400-700 kbps. From what I have been told these data transfers are only available in limited areas of the USA. The Iphone still is a time bomb to both company's stocks. Any product that creates this much buzz, is essentially setting itself up for failure. It reminds me of the .COM boom and bust back in 2000. WIFI based phones are coming out soon, and the IPhone doesn't support VOIP. There are already over 500 Iphones on ebay and they are not coming close to selling for retail. Glad you like your phone
Hey joe @ Jul 25th 2007 9:57PM and joe @ Jul 25th 2007 9:53PM Thanks for posting in my name you lame fucks.
270,000 lemmings down .. many more to go.
What's a Zune!!??
There are a bit mistake to the word "sold", Apple sold 270k to a resellers/stand of at&t/apple store/ebay and this count!, there wasn't a control to say how much iphone reach to a final user hand.
So, 270k sales are not equal to 270k new iphone users.
I'm just waiting for Apple to be the official sponsor of SCIENTOLOGY(TM).
I love the Apple loyal fanboys - go buy the iPhoney, and drive the stock of Nokia, Samsung and Motorola down... fact is the RAZR is still the best selling cell phone by first day/week/month sales, and look at where Motorola is already - back at the bottom of the heap. I love it as these stupid wars to have "the" mobile kills the stock of excellent companies like the above which I can buy up for cheap and wait for them to make the next hit. Right now the buzz is the iPhone, but from what I can tell the best Samsung phones are far superior, and in the end, Apple fanatics are still only 1% of the population. Yeah, they sold a lot in the first couple of days, but I'll bet the sales will drop to just about zero since *normal* people will shop around and realize there's alternatives that are better *and* cheaper.
Ah, how I love fanatics. They make it so easy to make money!
Will The iPhone sell 50 million phones in 2 years?
The Razr sold an average of about 75,000 phones a day, everyday, for 2 years. As Wink Jr. said, now that all the fanatics got it, now its time for the real users, people who buy a phone for the features not the name. I'm not wondering how much sales it had but how many people got jumped for it, how many stolen and how many broken. =P
"So, your telling me that established, and dedicated cell phone manufacturers sell as many phones as the new kid who also makes computers, DAPs, and software? Hmm, so what are you really saying here? I think you may be confused as to what is being said here."
What you don't see is that it's all even. Both companies are well Established. The indutry matters not, If motorola made a laptop it would have many buyers, why? motorola is established, I like their phones so I'll buy their laptop. Same with apple, I like their computers, mp3 player and software so i'll buy their phone. Thats the mentality. Would all you fanboy owners buy it had it been made by a new company? No. So what sold? the phone or the name?
Watcha gunna tell me? "shoo! Troll" as one fanboy said earlier when he did'nt know what to say?
Don't lie, if this was never released, and the EXACT same thing was released by Microsoft, Just the windows logo. I'll even go as far as saying same OS. Would all you apple fans go buy one? No. Its Microsoft. They suck. I could hear you now. So what are you buying now? The long battery life? All those features you scream out to all "apple-haters"? The features that make it "the best, revolutionary" and the rest or is it the name, Apple? Think before you speak.
Seems like many iphone users may be a bit timid using the iphone in public which is why you don't see the 270,000 sold in that time period. Maybe don't want to focus attention on them, or the hype on the phone tempting people who would like it sell it.
Anyway, go to your favorite photo sharing site and search for iphone. I saw quite a lot of pictures of iphones on flickr dot com with their owners, children, and even pets! LOL
