DirecTV TiVo owners to get update in early '08
Yeah, we know, it's hard to believe that DirecTV and TiVo are continuing to add features for hardware that is no longer available for purchase and that DirecTV takes every opportunity to replace with its own branded DVR. But we can only hope that this is a prelude to a new DirecTV TiVo. In the meantime current owners can expect to get a few of the great features that stand-alone TiVo owners have enjoyed for some time. A full feature list is not included in the announcement, but the few that are include: a deleted items folder, overlap protection, and DirecTV's remote booking feature -- which we assume will require a home phone line or could mean that USB Ethernet support will be added as well. So while these features are certainly not ground breaking, we're sure they'll be welcomed additions for the owners of aging DirecTiVo hardware.

Man, I like DTV so much more than Dish or Comcast...BUT...Dropped them when they dropped TIVO and won't go back until they do.
DTV without Tivo (HD) is like popcorn without butter.....
Agreed, DTV is definitely the way to go especially with the new HD channels coming in just over a month. I miss my Tivo but I must say its almost worth the swap to get to record anything I want in HD now. I still use one of the old RCA DTV/Tivo units in my bedroom however and I'd give almost ANYTHING for Direct to FINALLY activate that freaking USB Ethernet support my old Series 2 box had. I live on the outskirts of town where every phone call is a long distance call, charged by the minute (remember those days???) and my only phone jack is about 30 feet away from my box. Once a month, I have to break down and plug in my extra, extra long phone cord and download (and PAY FOR) my scheduling info. Man, I hate having to do that...
I've noticed that my HR20 has pretty much all the bugs worked out of it and it is finally getting the "rewind" feature now when I fast forward thru commercials so I don't have to manually back it up now to catch what I passed when programming started back up. That's another feature that was sorely missed that I don't have to miss anymore. Now, if they could just rework the program guide so it looked more like the Tivo format I'd be completely happy.

I'm waiting out for an affordable 1080p HDTV before I order HD service.
Umm, why? HD televison is all 1080i....
(regardless, 1080p is 99.9999% marketing hype anyway compared to 1080i)
Xyzzy,
...except for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD of course, right? Check out Flight of the Pheonix on Blu-Ray and/or Chronicles of Riddick on HD-DVD...on 1080p.
Yeah -- but he doesn't want to order HD service until he gets a 1080p, which is ridiculous. Even 720p looks amazing.
1080p really just doesn't give you anything over 1080i.
I dare you to set the two side-by-side on identical TV's with the Cicada sequence on Planet Earth.
This was out 1080p Demo at work. It sold 1080p like hotcakes. There is a HUGE difference in terms of the overall 'smoothness' of the image, as well as background detail.
