Their most new tech features are not functional in a main cabin. Passengers are frustrated and disappointed with the features.

We supposed to leave at 9:25pm from SFO to IAD on Oct. 28, 2007 but the Virgin America flight delayed over 2 hours. Even Virgin America staff members were chatting and walking around despite of lateness. They did not move forward and operate quickly. They were chatting and rumoring about their passengers. They performed too slowly and boarding was too slow. Boarding took longer than one hour.

Virgin America staff members are long tongue chatters than Southwest flight crew and staff members. I feel that my trip time is abused by Virgin America chronic lateness and sloppy service. We were expected to arrive at 5:30am next morning in IAD because we supposed to open a business meeting at 8am in DC area but the flight delayed and we arrived at 8am!!! The flight captain promised us to arrive late not longer than 6:30AM next day.

Many passengers are angry and mad. The flight crew was rude and with their negative attitude. I am a business traveller and have experienced with many red eye flights. Most airlines turn off lights during night time in order to allow passengers to sleep and rest well but airlines usually do turn on only a few of lights in cabin. Virgin America refused to turn off lights during night(bed time) and lights were on all night and morning. Honestly, we were surprised about that. Their flight crew was rude. I asked a flight attendant to turn off some lights for our bed time but he refused and told us to close eyes and shut up our mouths.

Results after Virgin America flight: We missed the business meeting and lost our potential clients! Yeah, once that fresh start financing from Airbus runs out and shit hits the fan with a weather situation (Read: JFK/SFO), I would love to see how they perform. Southwest, with it's cattle car seating, is the perfect example that all the technology in the domestic skies DOESN'T matter to customers, it's price and schedule. That's great that they have cabins filled with technology, but are they are not even close to being as vital as large network carriers. Are they part established global alliance (Oneworld, Star?)Will their frequent flyer program get you to Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, Hong Kong, Australia? Virgin America is a non union piece of crap run by Sir Richard Branson. I see he got Engadget to give him continual free press for this terrible idea. Just what the industry needs, another low cost start up airline to TRASH yeilds and add a multitude of capacity. Hopefully it shouldn't take long for the established Legacy carriers to smash this transcontinental upstart. JFK-SFO/LAX is a cut-throat market with United PS, American, not to mention jet Blue all doing multiple daily nonstops. And don't for one second believe they are going to roll over to some jump start effort. These airlines are all out of Ch. 11 and all have extremely low costs. One (united) is sitting on more than $5.1 Billion dollars in cash reserves. These ARE NOT the legacy carriers of the past, and LCCs should be the ones worried, not the other way around.

tuolumne

Comments on Virgin America's inaugural flight

Whoa, what was all that about? Most other airlines are much better at this (including, I bet, Virgin America), especially the Asian carriers (exception being Chinese carriers- I loathe China Eastern even more, and Shanghai Airlines- there's a reason they codeshare with United for their flights to America instead of operating their own). If I'm flying from San Diego to San Francisco (which I do often), yes, I do want a fast flight for cheap and I don't care about any of the niceties. But if I'm flying for 6 hours or more, you bet I want all of those services. It's almost two markets, really. Southwest does short flights very well, but flying across the country with them sucks. No wonder management has no respect for you. When I was working the ramp for SkyWest in Denver (a non-unionized "piece of crap" that is growing faster than United ever will) I was disgusted with United Union workers who would refuse to go slightly out of their way (say to the gate next to them) to rescue a lost bag that fell off a cart. You only look out for yourselves and have lost touch with reality. YOU, the union, will single handedly destroy that airline with your selfishness in the next few years as you see those cash reserves grow, you will want more than your share reguardless if that money can help situated the airline better by replace fuel-guzzeling 737's. Eat your cake, theres more than enough in a power-driven union world.

sburko

Comments on Virgin America's inaugural flight

At least I now know WHY United is crap.
