Have you ever tried to get that special microdot paper from any of the major office supply stores? I have and it's darn near impossible...most times you have to go back to the manufacturer to get the paper, and a small 50 sheet tablet usually costs over 15 bucks! That's a crap load of money for something you'll probably throw away.
And where do you get these special pens and paper? Nowhere local I know of...And I can't immagine that if you are anywhere in the world where the special paper is not sold and you need to get more...you're SOL folks...
This device, if it works, will be amazing...The only issue I see is that it looks like the receiver must be properly positioned on the page in order to receive the ultra-sonic transmissions from the pen...this could be a problem if you're standing up , or you have something between your pen and the receiver.
Ed
web/gadget guru

Ed

Comments on EPOS Technologies' digital pen records your writing

Easy tiger,

"This device, *if* it works, will be amazing" (my emphasis) hits it on the head.

I agree that the Anoto system is expensive but it is being used professionally in a wide verity of fields (construction, medicine, e-commerce, postal order, magazines and many more)... and their support is excellent.

David Kaspar

Comments on EPOS Technologies' digital pen records your writing

I want it

Reader

Comments on EPOS Technologies' digital pen records your writing

I'm in for a dozen, where can I see it in action?

Spanky

Comments on EPOS Technologies' digital pen records your writing

Having seen the animated demo, it almost appears that it does OCR for text based writing. I bought a similar device at Fry's in 2005. The biggest problems were relatively low resolution at 100 DPI and the inability to automagically recalibrate once you move to a different sheet of paper. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the device but it was almost the same. There was a USB fob thing that you clipped to the top of the paper and it registered the pen point's position. Until there is a way to re-write on different sheets of paper easily and quickly, this sort of thing is a messy toy. The purported advantage of this over a tablet PC or the special paper just isn't there, unfortunately.

Fred Thompson

Comments on EPOS Technologies' digital pen records your writing

I have seen all these comments about the Anoto solution and the fact that (micro dot paperis hard to come by) we have just done a deal with Mead Westco and they have a it available online and in stores. We provide a Bluetooth pen solution which send your notes to your Blackberry and coonverts them so you can use them to send an email, fax, task, memo or an appointment in your calendar. This then syncs with your email platform. We also provide a web interface where your notes are available as PDF or Word docs.
The Anoto solution is tried and tested and with new things for the end of the year we are sure to provide the solutions to even more businesses around the world.
