The idea is to deliver medications, in this case nicotine, through the pulmonary system in such a way that the absorption rate is increased significantly over inhalors and aerosols. Next Safety is developing technology that can do this. Nicotine replacement therapy was chosen as an entry point for development of the technology but the application method can be applied to thousands of medications. The increased effectivness of drug delivery is a holy grail of the medical community. Not to mention the positive impact it would have on the lives of patients. If they want a device that sends the nicotine straight to the dome, then let them.
