I've been with Verizon since 2000 and have been a fan ever since. Their prices are a BIT higher, but coverage has always been phenomenal. However, my mom lives in a newly developed community in Tampa, FL. I cannot get service there no matter how much I try. My mom has tried Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. No service has GREAT coverage. Needless to say, whenever I've had problems with my bill they've corrected it immediately. I've found that talking to reps in a "can you help me?" attitude rather than a "I demand HELP!" really helps. Naturally, you're not going to break a contract without penalties. That happens with almost ANY contract. For some reason, cell phone companies are held to this higher standard and should be exempt from this.
