I have never seen higher resolution screens on cameras: 922,000 pixel 3-inch screens on both the D300 and D3! Wow! And 12 megapixels on both!

It's good Nikon brought out a great camera like this, because now, Canon is going to have to make something better...

Robots, Take Over Please

Comments on Nikon D300 and D3 hits the web

They reference the 920,000 "dot" screens as VGA - they're counting each red, green, and blue as a separate dot for that total. Just multiply VGA (640x480) by three; you get their total. It isn't a 15" LCD (1024x768 = 786432 pixels) squashed down to 3" - think about the squinting that would cause! - but it is about 4x higher pixel density than any comparable camera LCD.

I do not mean to disparage the screen at all; every camera manufacturer does the "dot" thing. IMO the screen is the most interesting thing about the camera, aside from the monstrous new AF system. Let's hope it is as accurate as the D200's screen was... I would trade color accuracy for resolution any day.

Josh Warner

Comments on Nikon D300 and D3 hits the web

Engadget you forgot to mention DPREVIEW.

xpherion

Comments on Nikon D300 and D3 hits the web

Nikon hit it out of the ballpark in the D300 class.

sorry Canon 40D fanbois. maybe next time.

konkonnut

Comments on Nikon D300 and D3 hits the web

We'll see when DP Review has up some image quality comparisons.
