Razer intros 4000 DPI Lachesis gaming mouse

As if cramming its third-generation optical sensor in the Diamondback wasn't good enough, Razer is out to up the ante once more its newly-unveiled Lachesis. Compared to Microsoft's shiny new SideWinder, this creature touts double the DPI (that's 4,000 here, for those keeping score), and according to Razer, the 3G laser sensor "stops tracking at much lower lift-off levels than any other laser sensor, preventing tracking errors when the device is lifted off its tracking surface." Of course, you'll still be able to switch DPI on-the-fly sans special drivers, and the Ultraslick, Teflon-coated feet ought to glide around effortlessly for a good while. Razer's latest USB gaming mouse will go on sale globally this October for $79.99, and will be available in Phantom White and Banshee Blue colors.

Why not get the saitek GM3200? ITs 3200 dpi, and very nice, cost me £20 so sucks to those supposedly expensive mice.

Andrei is right . . . 4000 dpi is relatively useless, I think moving the mouse one inch would take the cursor all the way across your desktop. Three times. I don't even know if you could set the in-game mouse sensitivity low enough to compensate. .001 maybe?

It's really not about how far you can move it, it's about the resolution. 4000dpi allows you to turn down the sensitivity but still be very, very precise. Think of it like zooming in on a picture - you have less area now, but if you started with a high resolution it will still look good.

No way something without an endorsement from a pro-gamer will make you the "l33t pwner." Now if this was a "Fatal1ty" Sidewinder or Razer, it would easily be worth $150 to $200. ;)

I love my copperhead, and I'm a big Razer fan. I'm not really too into gaming anymore, but I'm lookin forward to the new Lachesis :D. 4000 dpi may seem like too much, but it does have a low starting dpi and increments of 125 so that's a plus for ppl who like low sensitivity. I personally love the fact that I barely need to move my hand to get my mouse to go across the screen. BTW I love this quote from Razer's site:
"[the 4000 dpi laser sensor] enables movement speeds of 5 times that of a standard 800dpi optical sensor"
Hmmm I never would've guessed... 4000 / 800 = 5 XD.

I for one have already ordered one. I admit it is overkill for a single monitor, but for my 4 monitors it will be nice. I currently use a diamond back and at it's highest I still need to move it a good 4 inches inches to get from one end to the other.
