HTMS intros Provia A1 navigator with DMB
Make no mistake about it, HTMS sure knows how to make a navigation system look awfully good whilst routing you around, and the Provia A1 is further proof. Sporting a seven-inch 800 x 480 resolution touchscreen, this bad boy includes a 520MHz Intel PXA270 processor, 128MB of RAM, an SD expansion slot, stereo speakers, USB 2.0 connectivity, AV inputs, audio in / out, and a built-in media player that understands DivX, XviD, H.264, WMA, WMV, OGG, MPEG3/4, and a host of other formats. Additionally, you'll find WinCE.net 5.0 runnin' the show and a DMB TV tuner for extra entertainment, and while there's no word of a price just yet, those outside of South Korea probably shouldn't worry over it, anyway.

Stupid FCC

Aside from the fact that MPEG-3 does not exist, this is promising.
Ben @ Aug 27th 2007 7:51PM
Uh... what on earth do you think mp3 stands for? Multimedia player 3? No. Mpeg 3. Mpeg 4 is also refered to as mp4.
Robert @ Aug 26th 2007 11:24PM
Yes it does
mp3?
Zach @ Aug 27th 2007 3:30AM
... all i can say is
woooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Bloobie @ Aug 27th 2007 7:17AM
He's right. There's no such thing as MPEG3. MP3 is MPEG-1, Layer 3.
JPW @ Aug 27th 2007 8:04PM
Ben, everything you needed to know before you wrote your comment is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-3
Also, all numerical MPEG standards use a hyphen: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MPEG-7, MPEG-21, etc.
I hope this helps you.

For the love of God, please, no more Korea-only DMB/navigation devices.
JPW @ Aug 26th 2007 11:30PM
MP3 is short for MPEG-1, Audio Layer 3 . . . which is probably what the article meant, but I'm not sure I would trust a navigation unit that had trouble with basics like that. I can imagine: "Make a three point turn in 1 mile." ;-)

Love the screenshot

I think 256MB of RAM would be better

How sexy. Well, for a nav system. But I am sick of all the Asian PMPs. Sure, it is great to see others aside from the iPod but its kinda turning into www dot engadgetasianpmp dot com ...

kick-ass look and innovative navigational system, though I doubt that GPS locator will be precise enough to place you exactly where you're, so for that matter 2D maps are more favorable as far as I can tell.
kai @ Aug 27th 2007 2:19AM
While the 3dimensional navigation is EXTREMELY sexy, the whole point of the lanes on the road is moot. GPS is only accurate up to 45 feet horizontally, and even if you're navigation unit is equipped with Differential GPS you're still looking at 16 feet accuracy. Considering a given highway lane is roughly 12 feet (in the suburbs), the breaking down of roads into a lane by lane basis is useless.
But I'd still buy it!
fraggle_rocker @ Aug 27th 2007 7:12AM
I dont think the idea of the lanes is there to tell you what one you are in, but what one you SHOULD be in, Like stay in the middle lane, youre going straight ahead the right lane is for turning right and left one for turning left..
On some roads it can be a bit confusing, A road beside me, you stay in the left lane to go straight on, then at the next set of traffic lights, literally a football field away you have to get into the right lane to keep going straight on.
If you were from out of town, you would probably stay in the left lane and be forced to turn left, and that takes you on a 2 or 3 mile detour.
Also because there is so much traffic, you can rarely see the ground markings telling you which lane youre supposed to be in..
So i think its a good idea.. and can imagine plenty of times when it would save you a bit of time.

Ditch the speakers, stick on a headphone jack, and an fm transmitter so the audio can be routed through the car speakers, and an fm radio, so you can listen to the radio through it or whatever you want..
and it would be perfection.
