Daewoo's portable DVD and iPod dock rocks DivX on 8-inch LCD
Daewoo is set to show their new DPC-8099PD-I portable DVD and iPod player at IFA on Friday. Should you care? Well, you might if you're in the market for a portable DVD player with full iPod integration and 8-inch LCD. You know, if Philips' gear just won't cut it. Specs include integrated stereo speakers and headphone jack; DVD/VCD/CD and CD-R/RW media support; MP3, JPG and DivX formats; and USB and multi-format memory card reader for slotting in additional media. No pricing or release information but we'll be sure to give her a spin while taking in the show later this week.

For a minute I thought it had a cup holder, and that minute was the closest I've ever come to actually wanting a portable DVD player

Kinda reminds me of tech from the 80's.

Old news, Philips did this way back already with a bigger screen. And in a kitchen version too.

i have the Philips version, it plays back DiVX and XViD files (with no need to re-encode) that are burned onto DVDs or CDs or placed on an SD memory card. i dont think it would work from the iPod, but i haven't tried it yet.

The Phlips had low screen resolution. How does this one compare?

Gonna be real interesting to see what sort of demand there is for this thing if it's not compatible with the new lineup coming out next week.
Then again, maybe that would make it more popular as the market will surely be saturated with recently price reduced 5G and 5.5G iPods after next wednesday. As a matched set they could be a good Christmas present for the kids. If companies like Best Buy and Walmart are smart, they'll offer it up for a huge discount on Black Friday.
Not sure what gadgetfreak is talking about... I checked out the phillips model the other day and thought it had a better picture then the other portable DVD players that were displayed next to it. The only criticism I've heard about the unit is how loud the drive is at spin up and spin down, especially when playing Divx or Xvid encoded discs. That wouldn't be an issue if you were playing them off an SD card or the iPod in storeage mode though.
