NVousPC lets you ugly up your new laptop however you please
We love a good brand gimmick-pastiche: take one part logo that looks NOTHING like Amp'd's branding, copious amounts of the Spider-man font, mix with skinned / colored laptop lids á la Sony or Dell, and you've got the oh so cleverly named NVousPC, a new portable computer business founded by a former Alienware employee. Out the door NVousPC's pushing what looks to be your run of the mill crappy Chinese 14.1-inch ("Mercury") and 15.4-inch ("Ether") models with 1GB+ RAM, Core 2 Duo, Vista, and custom paint jobs. Just be sure you choose it like you would a tat -- frozen bleeding ice-babies don't exactly scream "boyfriend material".

Dell should have kept this gentleman to show them how to get the paint right on their systems.
zargon @ Aug 28th 2007 5:28PM

adam @ Aug 29th 2007 7:29AM

arthur barnhouse @ Aug 28th 2007 7:33PM

strider_mt2k @ Aug 28th 2007 10:20PM
Good taste is irrelevant.
rwfu666 @ Aug 28th 2007 5:46PM
...that's pretty gross looking...
I don't think i'd even want to be in the same room as that PC...
Mandarin @ Aug 28th 2007 5:50PM
The custom picture option is a good idea actually.
Not sure who likes that weird looking baby on their laptop...
Boynamedsue @ Aug 28th 2007 6:04PM
for when you want people to know you're a douche but are too busy computing to tell them.
Steve-O @ Aug 28th 2007 6:12PM

EBone @ Aug 28th 2007 6:20PM
Apparently, resistance IS futile, if you're under age one.
tony @ Aug 28th 2007 6:23PM

I'm surprised you left out the 'named akin to Samsung's cameras' since they've been pushing the NV moniker quite heavily...
Cardbored @ Aug 28th 2007 7:51PM
or the LG enV?
Si @ Aug 28th 2007 8:18PM
Interesting use of the PS3 / Spiderman / Xbox font in the company logo.
diego @ Aug 28th 2007 8:11PM
i saw some raw dj's in Miami and NY with the NVOUS laptop designs. Dudes have macs... didn't know NVOUS could paint macs too.... ill jobs!! props hommies! no need to hate on tight work! spread the hype!
coffee @ Aug 28th 2007 8:45PM
what's the difference between these painted 'crappy Chinese' laptops, and the same exact rebadged models with alien heads, or tattoos, or any other paintshop that pushes the same models with flowery ad-speak and high end pricing?
Almost every non-major brand is a simple rebadge with a gimmick, yet this is the one that gets the sarcasm and hate from Engadget?
Whether it's Clevo, or Uniwill, or MSI, or whichever, these resellers all get the same barebones laptops from KunShan or ShenZhen factories, slap some rubber or paint on them, and give them cute names.
blandisrad @ Aug 29th 2007 8:20PM
A lot of online re-sellers and re-branders for that matter offer custom paintjobs for the "small price" of about $400. And there is always colorware...though I don't know if they will paint just any laptop you send in. Gimmicky is all I say. I have yet to see a user-designed custom-painted laptop that looks good, not that it isn't possible, though I would think the only useful biproduct of such a service would be to decrease the chance of someone stealing it. It is a bit more obvious than Sony's engraving option and if it has an ugly paintjob who would the would-be thief sell it to?
Henry Caden @ Aug 28th 2007 10:03PM
Does that company's logo remind anyone of a certain recently-failing mobile carrier?

Yes, and apparently so does Ryan Block.
Bad Beaver @ Aug 29th 2007 6:00AM
Seriously, I've been in a low mood all morning, but seeing this wonderful example of something that is basically generic crap being CRAPPED UP! +1, no, make that +5, and being sure that some people will want to spend money on it as soon as it hits the cheap outlets... makes me smile. Thank you.
Thinking about it, it is THE method of not having your laptop stolen. Ever. Unless you're living around people who buy this kind of stuff in the first place.
h8rain @ Aug 29th 2007 10:00AM
I agree with EBone that its an assimilated Borg baby!
mvz19 @ Aug 29th 2007 12:35PM
I loooove the website and their products... People are just "envious" of what NVous is offering to the market. DONT BE HATERS!
