Ricoh Caplio R7: 8.1 megapixel with 7.1x wide zoom
Ricoh keeps on keepin' on with another bump in specs for their R-series shooters. The R7 takes the R6 into 8.1 megapixel territory while maintaining the 7.1x wide zoom lens while tossing in their new Smooth Engine III image processing which should help quiet the noise at higher ISOs. Available in silver, black, and orange next month for a tax inclusive price of £230 in the UK.

That looks like a particularly large piece of glass for such a tiny camera.

this is due to two facts:
-the rather unusual spec: the 7.1 x zoom starts at wide angle ( 28 mm equivalen... hard to find)
- the camera is really tiny

My only problem with Ricoh camera is, they don't support OS X (or vice versa, Apple does not support Ricoh RAW format).
What a shame!

Hmm Joshua, Ricoh do indeed support OSX. I've got my GX100 sitting here, it's rather lovely. The camera has two modes one for use with the software which is obviously window$ only the other being a mass storage mode. Plump for the latter as found on most recent Richo cams and you away. I steer clear of manufacturers software, it causes more hassle than its worth.
The Ricoh cams output their RAWS (not that I use them) in the Adobe DNG format which plays well with photoshop CS and upwards (Version 7 with the use of the RAW filter if i remeber correctly)
Apples aperture can also be hacked to support the Ricoh RAW format too (not that I use that either)
Oh and the R7 above does look rather nice too. Ricoh certainly know how to make their cameras.

Anthony,
You really surprise me. Neither Ricoh GX-100 webpage http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/gx100/specs.html nor Apple Aperture RAW camera support info http://www.apple.com/aperture/raw/cameras.html said they support each other.
My be I borrow one (GX-100 or GX-Digital) and test run it.
