Garmin intros the nüvi 750, 760, and 770 GPS units
Garmin has unloaded some big GPS guns in your direction -- taking the form of the nüvi 750, 760, and 770 -- and life as we know it will never be the same. According to those "in the know," the new units feature settings which allow you to store up to ten commonly (or uncommonly) used routes, plus the little 4.3-inch-widescreen-havin' guys will also sort routes for multiple destinations -- a feature which has been lacking in past models. The 700-series also gets upgraded here-and-there by way of added information like speed limits for highways and interstates, and a unique feature which helps you find your car in mall parking lots by marking the spot in which the nüvi was removed from the car. All three of the new units provide an FM transmitter for broadcasting voices and music to your stereo, and the 760 and 770 models include Bluetooth support, so you can rock extra-safe, hands-free driving when you're making your next big excursion. The nüvi 750, 760 and 770 will be available in the 4th quarter of 2007 for $642.85, $857.13, and $1071.42, respectively.

Well, at least their product shot didn't direct the driver over the 35W bridge.

My thoughts exactly - almost a case of a very, very bad product demo.

why is it that navigation units are so freakin' expensive? they've been around for a while, and i don't see how the components add up to so much...
i'm not complaining; i just don't see why they're so expensive

Just be glad they took Clerks to heart and didn't end any of the prices in "9".

You may not be complaining, but I am. I think that the prices of all GPS units are completely outrageous. For what they want for them, you can buy a full size computer, laptop or desktop, that can do much more than these little things. There is no reason they have not come down in price in the last few years especially with all of the competion and with all of the people that have them.

If things are on sale you can get a decent GPS for 300 or less... That seems reasonable.

If only the iPhone had a true GPS in it :(

Finally Garmin added back the ability to use multiple waypoints in a route and the ability to save routes for later use. Why those functions were not in the earlier Nuvi's is a serious puzzle. At least these new 7xx units fix that problem.
It's odd that of all the reviews I've read in the 7xx series, the authors fail to point that out.

Garmin keeps releasing new models and out of the ones I have used they are the most reliable. But why cant they add the routing option back when entering the destination for least use of freeways, most use of freeways, shortest distance ect. All of the other companies GPS like Magellan and Tom Tom have this feature. The early Garmins like the street pilot III and 27XX models have it. As soon as they started with the new models they took this option away which is not only useful but in my opinion a safety issue. Who wants to take a route through a strange town off the main highway and risk your life. You should be able to select most use of highways as an option.

If you think these units are expensive, you should check out what car makers are charging for in-vehicle navigation systems. You'd be blown away. Think 2-3k! (at least here in Canada)

Garmin needs to release software for umpcs, tablets, and laptops that's exactly like what their portable devices run. The software they have now is too cumbersome to use in a car or on the go enviroment and there are full fledge computers small and portable enough that could take advantage of such software.

Looks like someone's going to MacDonald's in Minneapolis...

Yeah, you're right! That's the sleazy McD's on Broadway. Should have gone right on university to the one on campus.
