Toshiba announces HD-EP30 / HD-EP35 HD DVD players for Europe
While there's certainly been quite a few new Blu-ray players to emerge from IFA, Toshiba is making sure the HD DVD faithful (at least those in Europe) aren't slighted by launching a new duo for that crowd. The standalone HD-EP30 and HD-EP35 players will both tout "REGZA-Link (HDMI, CEC-Link) connectivity and native 24 frames per second playback support," and moreover, the HD-EP35 also supports High Bit Rate Audio and Deep Color via HDMI. Additionally, both October-bound units play nice with Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, and DTS HD formats, and while the lower-end iteration is set to launch between €349 ($477) and €399 ($545), the EP35 will demand between €449 ($613) and €499 ($682).

dear toshiba/hd dvd forum
beat out sony/blu-ray, by dramatically reducing your prices. by doing this you will lose money now, but win in the end. and prove to everyone sony is pulling another betamax.
love every HD consumer (except possibly playstation fanboys, but there arent too many of them anymore)

Dear Toshiba/Microsoft.
Nobody wants your overpriced, under-spec'd crap.
Give it up already, the HD DVD format is dead, admit it and move on.
wysiwyg @ Sep 2nd 2007 10:01AM
I think you mean Sony for their over-priced, underspec (missing profile 1.1) players.
mfed3 @ Sep 2nd 2007 11:14AM
dear mak,
you are delusional. the hd dvd spec is actually complete and superior to the blu-ray spec. hd dvd requires an internet connection, storage on board for downloadables, and uses HDi which is better than bd java. just go with the flow dude, why would you ever want sony controlling a format. sony: always overpriced, and underperforming.
i never understood how people can support such a company. seriously..who are these people who post around on these message boards supporting them as if they held stock in the company. STOP SUPPORTING SONY THEY ARE A BAD COMPANY.

Dear HD DVD supporters.
The HD DVD format is dead in the water in Europe.

Please ebay your players whilst you still can, and buy Blu-Ray.
Thank you for your attention.

I see you put the same miss information in Engadget and EngadgetHD.
With HD DVD lower prices and with Parmount and Dream Works going HD DVD exclusive HD DVD is on a roll to total acceptance.
Mark Gillespie @ Sep 3rd 2007 3:11AM
Sure does not look like HD DVD is doing anything right now. There are a few thousand owners making noise, but general acceptance is going Blu-Ray quickly.
I bet Paramount are kicking themselves right now.
Mike @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:14AM
A few thousand??? There is probably 250,00-300,000 stand alone HD DVD players and 200,000-250,000 xbox 360 add ons being used as HD DVD players.
The only blue ray players selling is the ps3 and only about 13% are being used to watch movies according to engadget.

I couldnt give a monkey's which format if any wins! im going dual format. Its got to be about the films not which format they are on. by being in the blu ray or the HD camo to firmly means missing out som great movies
