Navigon's Porsche Design P9611 finally zooms past the FCC

We got our first glimpse of this one in August of 2006, with hopes for a release that November. More than a year later we're not exactly sure it's been worth the wait -- there's plenty of good-looking GPS kit these days at half the price -- but if you've still got $900 burning a hole in your pocket, Navigon's Porsche Design P9611 GPS unit just hit the FCC, which hopefully means it's not far from store shelves. Too bad 4.3-inches of 480 x 272 touchscreen, a 520MHz XScale processor and Bluetooth hands-free don't sound all that luxurious anymore.

Geez 900$ for a ugly gps navigation unit with average software/hardware spec?
I would rather buy a top notch gps navi like the tomtom 920t (voice synt&recognition,fm transmitter,mapshare, fm traffic receiver) and save at least 250$

It only makes sense if you own a Porsche with Aluminun trim interior, since you probably wouldnt be in dire need of those 900 dollars if you did.

Except the newer ones come with integrated nav.

I'm not hot on the text being on the device. Keep it on the box, or maybe next to the regulatory labels.

Have one. It is the best navigator that I have had (and I have had many). Fast navigation, you will not get lost. Very good handsfree phone via blue tooth, it pics up the phonebook from your phone and the sound is very good. Have several times not follow the driving instructions to see how fast it will give me a new instruction and it manages to give me a new instruction in about 150 meters. Very good. Screen is bright and even if you you have sunshine into the screen you can see it. It is also nice that hte TMC antenna is integrated so you have just one cable.
